12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured a reddish brown with little to none head. Aroma is mostly malts and caramel. Taste is also sweet of malts with a little bitter and dry aftertaste. Nice spring beer.

If you like malts, it’s hard to get much maltier than this. It winds up very sweet, almost too much by the end of the bottle, so stick to one. I would recommend this one although it will be overkill if you’re not fond of malt to the extreme.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a medium off white head. Aroma and flavor are sweet, malty, creamy, some toffee and fruit. Very little hop bitterness. Creamy mouth feel.

19 dec 2012, bottle. Orange/ruby, clear, no bubbles. Nose is sweet, raisins, sugar, white grapes. Med/thin body and slightly fizzy, lots of alcohol. It is sweet at first but has a harsh alcohol flavor. It's not very nice overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark malt aroma with some noticeable alcohol heat in the nose with some caramelization and hints of dark fruit. As you pour this beer it's a brilliant dark copper-red. The flavor is true to the Nose. A big malty lager the a significant alcohol warmth. The kettle caramelization ads a sherry-like note on top of the malty base and alcohol heat. Relatively full mouthfeel and a nice lingering sweetness, but not cloying. Over all a nice big beer that could use some time to mellow out. Top end of the dopplebock style, this is a pretty big beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not cloyingly sweet like a lot of its ilk. However, not going to buy this again,

Sampled at JL Beers in Grand Forks. Pours a hazy dark honey colour. Very malty romas and flavours. Sweet honey and wet grains. Quite sweet. Medium bodied mouth feel. Maybe a touch too much booze at the end, but I really liked this.

This was a nice malty beer. Dark colour, sweet and aromatic. One of the best from Sam Adams.

22 oz bottle labeled 8.5% ABV pours a clear reddish brown with huge light tan head and decent lacing. Smell is full of caramel. Aroma is mostly caramel with some molasses. Taste is sweet, body is medium to full, and carbonation is thankfully below average. Has a long bready finish. I enjoyed this much more than the same brewery’s "Imperial Series" double bock, but it’s still too simple to be one of the greats in this style.

This is up to 9.5% now, bottle not dated. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, sugar, and heaving dose of candied alcohol. Thicky, clear Martian rock color. Plenty of tan head, which collapses pretty fast. Sweet flavor, though not nearly as sweet as the smell indicates. Instead it amounts to a dull, heavy clubbing of the palate. This beer is thick in a syrupy way: both sticky yet smooth. While this brewer does excellent mid strength stuff, I feel the plot gets lost when trying extreme versions of heavier styles.
