Samuel Adams Double Bock. Malt malt malt. This beer pours out a dark to brown hue with an off white head. Retention wasnít impressive and the lacing wasnít either. Now to the aroma. Off the bat you get a whiff of the malts that give off a sweetness to the smell. The flavor is also primarily malty and bready with notes of molasses. The initial sweetness is followed by a beautiful bite that rounds out the drink very well.

Bottle I have had for about a year. Plenty of caramel and toffee. Light brown with a nice head. Obviously for slow drinking,.

Nice dark doppel that had a lot of sweetness in the aroma and taste. Good alcohol % follows though to make it an enjoyable beer.

Leathery copper in color. Thin soapy head. Strong toffee aroma. Sweet malt flavor notes. Some caramel and more toffee flavors with a clean finish. Overall, a decent brew...

Poured from 22oz bottle into tulip. Big tan four finger head. Beer is clear and ruby in color when held up to light. Aroma is malty with notes of bread, cereal and yeast. Taste is lightly sweet and malty with notes of bread and yeast. Beer is full bodied, sticky textured and average carbonation with a long finish. Overall this is a good beer. Havenít had many bocks, and certainly not recently, therefor it is difficult for me to compare to others of the style.

22 oz bottle, poured into a tulip at approximately 45 degrees F. Appearance: Pours a deep, rich, clear mahogany red-amber, and forms a massive, fluffy head of tawny beige foam. Lacing is present and impressive. The bottom of the glass lines with large bubbles, and sheets of tiny bubbles rise continuously. Smell: Heavy caramel malt swirls out of the glass, thick with the scent of fresh bread as well. Thereís a toffee presence in the aroma, and something vaguely leathery. Taste: As predicted from the smell, this is heavy on the caramel and toffee malt flavors, from the opening all the way through the finish. Thereís a breadiness in the background as well, alongside a rather sharp, metallic iron sort of taste. By the finish, that metallic note intensifies, turning dry and sharp, and thereís an odd lingering intense bitter toffee aftertaste. Not much going on in the way of any fruits, though there is a vague sort of walnut tone that manifests through the middle. Mouthfeel: Initially somewhat creamy and sticky, this breaks down at the end to leave a watery finish. Overall: Not a bad go at a doppelbock from a US brewer! It stays solidly in the malt flavor wheelhouse, and comes decently close on mouthfeel. Itís not my favorite doppelbock, nor even my favorite US attempt, but itís a solid beer.

Caramel, bread, fruit, alcohol, caramel, malt. Pours a clear darkish brown color with a nice thick white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, fruit, bread, metallic, booze. Taste is fruit, intense malt, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, sweet, bread, alcohol finish. Great double bock, better than most for the style in my opinion.

Clear brown with an orangish tan head. Aroma is caramel, bread. Sweet, very smooth, almost no bitterness. A little alcohol burn in the finish due to the strength. Not bad.

22 ounce bottle. Very dark red, frothy head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is bready and a bit smoky. Sweetness typical of a double bock. Malty. Not much else going on. Enjoyable enough because I like the style, but not a favorite.
