Not quite Paulaner Salvator, but almost. I donít get the bitterness that is mentioned by many reviewers here, but Iím a bit of hophead, so this beer tastes very sweet. Yes, I might be a hophead, but the next best thing to a lot of hops is a lot of malt!

at tasting, what stood out was the malty characters, toffee among other things. Decent.

Ek! This would be SO MUCH BETTER if I didnít taste only alcohol with every sip! Any delightful hint of malt is overrun entirely by the booziness of this brew. Huge letdown. Hardly drinkable.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a mostly transparent copper with off-white lacing. Smells semi-sweet and malty with notes of caramel. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel thatís medium-bodied. A little hot, but alright.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Clear dark red color. Thin ring of off-white head. Couple dots and bits of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Dark fruit, caramel malt. Light bit of smoke. Some savory. Moderate sweet taste. Moderate bitter, too. Light spiciness. Decent american doppelbock. Good, thicker texture to it, which I enjoy... A nice, more full body. Solid.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sugary sweet malt dominates the aroma very slight fruit great finish no hops detected. Off-white to tan frothy long lasting head cloudy dark amber in color. Heavy malt presents with some old fruit sweetness. Alcohol content is noticeable as expected but not too overpowering. Mouth feel is medium bodied with slight carbonation and alcoholic warmth. Overall nice dominant malt flavor alcohol content comes through just a bit too much. Good smooth malt and sweetness to style mouth feel could be a bit fuller.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Moriartys. Clear dark copper pour with a tight foamy white head. Wet lace. Lots of medium dark caramel malts. Some dark red fruit. Flavors are solid but feel thin and artificial. Feels forced. Lacking the character of traditional Double Bocks.
