3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz. bottle. Pours a clear, dark copper color with a medium white head that laces nicely. Aroma is of roasted malts, caramel, and sweet fruit with hints of alcohol. Flavor is rather sweet with hints of sweet fruit and malt with a sweet, caramel finish. Mouthfeel is very soft and smooth. I’m not the biggest fan of Sam, but this brew is very enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Granite State on tap.
Deep brown with a smallish quickly dissipating off white head. Huge bready caramel raisin dried fruity maltiness with just a touch of alcohol and earthy hop to balance. Nice sipper that I need to spend a little more time getting to know.

probably 4th best or so of the first10 DB’s i’ve tried...similar to Optimator, with a ever so slightly tighter carbonation for a lighter mouthfeel. very sweet and malty. solid effort."

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Dark ruby with decent khaki head. Full body. Alcohol is there and starts to get in the way. Fairly Thick bready malty. Caramel. Dark fruit. Something a little strange, or off putting or something I didn’t quite like that I couldn’t put my finger on. Solid.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle, pours a clear dark reddish brown with an off white head, aroma is a nice amount of sweetness and a good amount of caramel and dark sugar, the flavor has a dark caramel and sweet front end with a bitter finish, still balanced, not bad.

at tasting, what stood out was the malty characters, toffee among other things. Decent.

1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Ek! This would be SO MUCH BETTER if I didn’t taste only alcohol with every sip! Any delightful hint of malt is overrun entirely by the booziness of this brew. Huge letdown. Hardly drinkable.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a mostly transparent copper with off-white lacing. Smells semi-sweet and malty with notes of caramel. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel that’s medium-bodied. A little hot, but alright.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Clear dark red color. Thin ring of off-white head. Couple dots and bits of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Dark fruit, caramel malt. Light bit of smoke. Some savory. Moderate sweet taste. Moderate bitter, too. Light spiciness. Decent american doppelbock. Good, thicker texture to it, which I enjoy... A nice, more full body. Solid.
