craftycarl21 (184), South Hero, Vermont, USA Apr 2, 2008 casual head with little lacing. beautiful coloration- dark mahogany mixed with the appearance of a fine red wine. aroma has malt, raisins, other dark fruit- subtle but beautifully unfettered. similar flavoring, nice carbonation level, oh so tasty for a sam adams, definitely in my top 3 from boston beer co. so far. mouthfeel is very nice, especially for a macrobrewery, albeit arguably the best macro ever. very nice beer overall.
bmcb76 (1), USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 Little too heavy and almost had a syrup thickness. Good color, good head, lots of alcohol. It was quite good but not an everyday beer. vikasdesai (15), USA Aug 21, 2008 starts out great, but sam adams has a LONG way to go to catch up with doppelbock’s shneider aventinus, , this is like drinking maple syrup, its too darn heavy, i once drank 10 kubuli’s but i can barely drink one of these, great sweet flavor though, its one of those beers you can share with friends because 1 bottle is way too much for one person ChainGangGuy (1524), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Aug 10, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark mahogany-hued body with a thin cap of white bubbles.
Smell: Toasty caramel nose with a rich, vinous vein of fruitiness and a slight solventy tone.
Taste: Very sweet, very strong taste of toasted dark caramel with a distinct plum and golden raisin fruitiness throughout and a hint of sweetened dough. Tiny bit of spicy hops and imparted bitterness, but for the most part, this one’s all sweetness. Luscious, syrupy finish with a pinch from the warming alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Definite stickiness to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A slow sipper suited for ice-cold winter nights, it’s a rather well-made, respectable doppelbock that can easily be found for a good price. bwbeall812 (26), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bottle. Dark reddish brown pour with an average head. Sweet brown sugar and caramel makes this brew a nice desert. Malty bitter finish leaves you wanting more. smellycat (1), mansfield, Texas, USA does not count Aug 8, 2008 Welcome to malt land.
A sweet, beautiful medium bodied joy in a cup.
The best malt liquor in the world.
