COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a small tan head over a clear copper body. Aroma of banana, rye and husky wheat. Taste is watery with clove, wheat and some esters. Fizzy and watery.

12oz bottle purchased at Shaw’s as part of the new Samuel Adams Harvest mix-pack. Pours a hazy to murky copper brown body with over an inch of khaki-colored head. Smells nutty and banana notes and hints of spice and lemon-zest and pith. Toasty nuttiness hits first in the flavor, with hints of caramel and toffee, and suggestions of banana and spice. Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Pretty darn drinkable. Not at all a bad example of the style - a welcome addition to the Samuel Adams fall line-up!

Found this in the harvest pack and I loved it. Reminds me of what I really did find in Bavaria last fall. Well balanced and unfiltered, this beer pours a cloudy brown. Everything about it is hearty. Now the challenge is to find a six pack.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 8/26/09, I made them crack open the Harvest pack into singles so I could buy 1 of these without having to get the whole 12 pack

Aroma: Wheat, lemon, banana, clove, mild spice
Appearance: Slightly hazy orange-amber color, fluffy white head
Flavor: Spice, malty wheat, bready and citrus flavors blend alright with the spice
Palate: Light to medium in body, pretty fizzy, drinkable, smooth
Overall Impression: You know, this beer is alright, but it certainly isn’t great. It is a little light on flavor and character for me, though it appears that others liked it more then I did.

**Just submitted a Photo for this one as well, as it was missing one.

A decent enough beer however it is to sweet and light in color for the style. Pours a slightly hazy sweet tea color with a standard beer head, not a weizen head. Aroma is mainly yeast with some sweet malts and noticeable cloves and banana esters. To me this is to sweet, not that I want some hybrid hop bomb, but something with more balance and wheat.

Hazy, ice tea color with some off white head. Aroma of banana, clove, nutty malt and some spice. Lightly sweet malty flavor with a bit of banana and spice. Nice body with lots of carbonation, finishes pretty clean. Decent, smooth dunkel.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2012 Update 07/25/2012: Now I am thinking if I closed my eyes I couldn’t tell the difference between this and a regular hefe..... Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX (Fall Mixer 12 pk.) Pours a deep hazy dark amber with beige head. Aroma of banana bread, fruity, malty. Flavor is malty, some banana, a little clove, nuts, small sweetness. Mouth feel is medium body with high carbonation, appears to be a tad bit creamy as well. Overall, a decent brew....

Sam Adams has done it again. Slightly cloudy dark amber body with a thin beige head. Wonderful aroma of banana and nuts, like freshly baked banana bread. Surprisingly thick mouthfeel. Banana, nuts, caramel, and spice make up the flavor. Another winner from one of the best brewers.

12 oz. bottle w/ Sample B. Pours brown with a small diminishing beige head. The aroma was malty, fruity (dark varieties, bananas), slightly nutty, yeast, and a hint of spice. The flavor has a nice malt rich malt base with the dark fruits, banana, yeast, caramel, and spices coming through as well. Medium bodied and smooth drinking.

CBC @Sam Adams-on tap-pours a retaining off white head and cloudy amber/orange color. Aroma is banana, sweet light malt. Taste is banana/clove, light/medium malt. Smooth. Missing some Dunkel, but great beer.
