COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a small tan head over a clear copper body. Aroma of banana, rye and husky wheat. Taste is watery with clove, wheat and some esters. Fizzy and watery.

Bottle from Harvest collection variety package. Pours hazy brown with off-khaki head. Nose is malt, spicy hops, earthy brown sugar, mild banana. Tastes malty, a bit sweet up front, with earthy nuts, spice, and banana. Pretty complex, and better than I expected.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2010 Bottle from variety pack. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium white head that burns away steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of malt, toasted bread and cloves. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, fruit, sweet spices and a touch of caramel. The finish is sweet with a fruity aftertaste. Pretty average overall.

Bottled. Poured medium orange with a short, swirly white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty vanilla and banana notes with a bunch of cloves accenting.. more assertive than I wanted for the style. The flavor found warm caramel, molasses, and a kiss of chocolate at the core, with ripe bananas and cloves around.. finished very spicy with cloves and nutmeg leading. Medium-bodied, very sweet, and very spicy on the palate (those components didn’t always mesh well or flow smoothly).. heavy-handed for the style.

Sample bottle. Pours brown with a tannish head. Smells of bananas, cloves, some bubblegum, some caramel, touches of chocolate. Taste repeats the nose and is also accompanied by an earthy finish with some spiciness at the end. Not bad.

Bottle:   Big pillowy white head, nice lacing, dark and hazy amber.   Looks fairly decent.   Both the nose and on the tongue it has some bits of clove, banana, and spices.   More flavorful on the tongue than the nose suggests.   A little mealy, some dark pitted fruit on the exit, light, but its there.   Could stand to be a bit heavier, but as is its fairly moderate.   Better than I expected.   Thanks for the bottle Bill!

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks Jay! Dark brownish bred pour with white head, aroma brought notes of banana, clove, biscuit, caramel, toffee, hints of earth and grassy notes. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, some nice banana, clove, touch of grass and earth, slightly watery finish with a hint of sweetness.
