3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ughsmash (6669) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 20, 2012
Bottled. Poured medium orange with a short, swirly white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty vanilla and banana notes with a bunch of cloves accenting.. more assertive than I wanted for the style. The flavor found warm caramel, molasses, and a kiss of chocolate at the core, with ripe bananas and cloves around.. finished very spicy with cloves and nutmeg leading. Medium-bodied, very sweet, and very spicy on the palate (those components didn’t always mesh well or flow smoothly).. heavy-handed for the style.

12 ounce bottle opened 9/3/10. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. The aroma is yeasty with banana and spice notes. The taste is bready, with banana, spice and a tart, bitter finish. Medium bodied. Fairly straightforward example.

Tap @ Flying Saucer KC. Orange brown appearance with a cream colored head. Dark wheat, banana, clove, fairly typical, notable nose. Dark malty, huge banana, clove, somewhat spicy, wheat malty flavor. The banana and clove notes are in overdrive but I still enjoy the beer.

Sample bottle. Pours brown with a tannish head. Smells of bananas, cloves, some bubblegum, some caramel, touches of chocolate. Taste repeats the nose and is also accompanied by an earthy finish with some spiciness at the end. Not bad.

The flavor is chewy with a nice wheat and caramel touch and a raisin and molasses spicy finish. Clean and balanced with a big body and mouthfeel. Nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 riversideAK (5413) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - AUG 30, 2007
Aroma is roasty chocolate. Brown in color. Flavor is sweet, roast,y and wheaty with a little bit of clove and yeast perhaps. It has a lingering sweetness as well. It is definitley better than the Irish Red which it is competing against.
