COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Bottled. Poured medium orange with a short, swirly white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty vanilla and banana notes with a bunch of cloves accenting.. more assertive than I wanted for the style. The flavor found warm caramel, molasses, and a kiss of chocolate at the core, with ripe bananas and cloves around.. finished very spicy with cloves and nutmeg leading. Medium-bodied, very sweet, and very spicy on the palate (those components didnít always mesh well or flow smoothly).. heavy-handed for the style.

11/6/12. 12oz bottle from Publix. Barely hazy deep amber pour with a small khaki head that cuts in half and sticks in a small ring and laces in spotty sheets. Big banana and fruitiness in the aroma with touches of cream, caramel, and spice. The flavor shows a ton of banana, bubblegum, and fruit again with hints of spice, caramel, and metal. Not bad, actually.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange copper with a medium creamy off white head that leaves spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is clove and banana with bubblegum. Medium mouthfeel with a crisp bready malt with banana and light citrus. Easy to drink, a good dunkel from Sam Adams.

draft at Coles, Buffalo NY. Pours a somewhat burnt orange color. Like when an orange is starting to go bad color. Cloves dominate aroma with fruity yeastiness. Decent dunkle flavor but maybe needs a tad more in both aroma & flavor

Tallahassee, Fl - Publix Supermarkets - Killearn - 12 oz bottle. Bonus - thought I had already rated this...was just going to do a rerate! Slightly murky dark copper pour, soft off-white head. Aroma of cloves and bubble gum. Solid wheat flavor with a hint of bananas and cloves and a touch of bubble gum. Mouthfeel is sticky and thick.

Bottle:   Big pillowy white head, nice lacing, dark and hazy amber.   Looks fairly decent.   Both the nose and on the tongue it has some bits of clove, banana, and spices.   More flavorful on the tongue than the nose suggests.   A little mealy, some dark pitted fruit on the exit, light, but its there.   Could stand to be a bit heavier, but as is its fairly moderate.   Better than I expected.   Thanks for the bottle Bill!

Sample bottle. Pours brown with a tannish head. Smells of bananas, cloves, some bubblegum, some caramel, touches of chocolate. Taste repeats the nose and is also accompanied by an earthy finish with some spiciness at the end. Not bad.

Pailhead (6142) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - AUG 1, 2011
On tap: The aroma consists of banana, bubblegum, light caramel, and a touch of roast. Itís a hazy brownish-orange with a small off-white head that quickly settles to a thin film. The flavor starts with moderate banana, caramel, and a touch of chocolate. The finish has a light wheaty tanginess and a touch of roast. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, I love wheat beers and this is a pretty tasty Weizenbock.

The beer pours a reddish-amber color with a white head. The aroma is basic dunkelweizen with some caramel, toffee, banana and clove notes. The flavor is more of the same with bananas and cloves, as well as some caramel malt, vanilla and brown sugar. Thin to medium mouthfeel, slightly water. Medium carbonation.
