COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2012 Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium creamy tan head that laces well. Aroma is wheat, roasted malt, notes of lemon and banana. .flavor seems quite authentic with clear wheat, caramel, banana, and lemon notes, light sweetness, mildly astringent, banana lemon finish with just a touch of bitter. Very drinkable.

Perhaps the darkest weizen I have seen. Aroma is big and malty with some spice. Aroma is better than the flavor which was not substantial. Body was thin as well.

The beer pours a reddish-amber color with a white head. The aroma is basic dunkelweizen with some caramel, toffee, banana and clove notes. The flavor is more of the same with bananas and cloves, as well as some caramel malt, vanilla and brown sugar. Thin to medium mouthfeel, slightly water. Medium carbonation.

Aroma is roasty chocolate. Brown in color. Flavor is sweet, roast,y and wheaty with a little bit of clove and yeast perhaps. It has a lingering sweetness as well. It is definitley better than the Irish Red which it is competing against.

( 12oz bottle thanks to blutt59) Pours clear yellow/orange and just average lacing. Nose of German wheat, clove. Taste is lightly sour and some chocolate on the finish. Doesn’t remind me of most dunkels at all. Watery body, needs more sweetness and finishes quite dry.

I liked this more than I expected. Reddish brown, decent sized loose, spongey head. I got some rye, some banana, some toasty aromas, and the flaor was more rye. Nice and clean, no "off" flavors to speak of. Tasty. Sampled at lithy’s Septemberfest.

Finishes with more grains, chocolate banana, light spice, yeast, sweet malt and candy.

12 oz. Bottle. Pours cloudy brown, light fluffy head, some lacing. Nose is clove, earthy funk, slight banana. Taste is largely reflective of the smell, a decent example of this style, nothing to knock your socks off. Drinks smooth, if the mouthfeel is a bit watery. Decent beer, and one of the few readily available dunkels MOST people can get their hands on.

From a bottle poured at home. Pours a deep, hazy amber with an off white head. Fruity banana aroma and flavor without much hop present. Crisp finish. A decent, sessionalbe beer.

Bottle: Pours clear copper with a creamy tan head. Banana bread aroma. Taste is toffee malt, banana, sweet yeast, Good solid banana tones throughout. It’s light, but it certainly is pleasant.
