Our version of the traditional German Kolsch style is fragrant and complex. The Alsation hop we chose imparts a subtle citrus note. Jasmine Sambac, a night blooming Southeast Asian flower, adds a delicate floral aroma and flavor to this layered and refreshing brew. Cheers!

The beer pours a yellow-gold color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the wheat and grain with not too much else going on. The flavor is more exciting. I get some grain and grass notes, as well as some bready malt and a little bit of grape characteristics. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Decent, but not as good as I was expecting it to be.

12 oz. bottle- Pours pale golden with a geyser of bubbles and very nice lacing, but too thin of a head. The aroma is crisp and clean, there is a lemony and very mellow hop aroma to it. The flavor is creamy, mellow, lemon, kind of floral. The carbonation is high, body is medium. Good summer chugger.

Tasted at home 5-6-2011 Aroma: Wonderfully floral, though it is a bit light. Appearance: Nice straw color but with minimum head retention. Taste: Extremely delicate. This was a joy to drink. Very light cereal body without feeling thin or astringent. The jasmine floral note is similar to a clover honey at times without being overly sweet. Surprisingly complex for it’s lightness. Palate: Tart, slightly biting body from the CO2, not overly full body. This seemed to fit the style well. Overall: Surprising beer. Complex but delicate. This was a real surprise and a very good beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours pale yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is straw, floral hops and honey. The flavor is tart and sweet at the beginning and malty and mildly bitter finish. The palate is powdery, lively carbonation, and light. Overall, a refreshing and subtly complex beer.

Bottle from the Summer Sampler pack. It poured a clear golden color with a thin white head. The aroma was fruity and bready. The taste was light crisp malt, a hint of biscuit, fruit and a some earthy hops on the finish. Not a bad brew.

Just as my friend from Pottsgrove enjoyed his Sam Adams summer sampler, I too found some new flavors in that case. This is one of the two new beers for me included in that sample case. This Kolsch is pretty tasty, smooth and drinkable, but not one to savor for the future. It has a robust and semi-floral flavor, but really lacks in most other taste departments. The finish leaves a metallic taste on my palate, which makes me want to wash it down with a Lager (which I’m about ready to do!).

Bottle from summer sampler. Pours deep gold with clingy white head. Nose is pale malt, honey, floral. Tastes crisp, with a front end pale malt, some honey, and the lflorals and hops hitting at the back of the throat.

12 oz bottle from the summer sampler. Pale yellow and clear with a small dissipating head. Nose is mild malty viennish type malts. Taste is clean and crisp, with a taste a bit milder (or tamer) than the typical German Kolsch. Good clean summer beer that does not offend.

bottle. Pours pale gold with slight tint of orange and white head. Very mild aroma of butter, flowers. Medium bodied. Flavor is nice crisp and refreshing as a kolsch should be, with tones of hay and the jasmine giving the finish a nice floral, slight bitterness. A good kolsch, and my favorite beer out of the summer mix pack.
