3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Went to a friends house this last weekend for a cookout, and he had a mixed pack of SA brews. This one caught my eye as I am a sucker for Kolsch-style beers. 12oz bottle.
Pours a moderately dark sunny gold. A small cap of white foam rests atop. Sweet floral nose - cut flowers, malt, citrus zip. Cool, crisp mouthfeel. Bubbles add a refreshing wash on the palate. The added flower-characteristic to this beer is notable in the flavor. Definitive herbal notes, but they are delicate and add a nice adjustment to the profile. Biscuity malt and a fresh finish of lemon. Mild bitterness make this one an easy beer to down on a warm afternoon. Nice work, BBC.

"Not bad! Not a style I usually care for, but the floral citrus aspects brought on by the jasmine are quite nice. Otherwise a fairly non descript light beer. Nice for summer."

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Transfer from BA review on 5-7-12 -
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a medium golden color with a slightly orange hint. Upon pouring it has a medium white head which fades at a moderate pace to give a small amount of lacing.
Smell – Citrus notes mixed with a somewhat biscuit aroma are the base. With these aromas are some floral and sweet caramel aromas as well.
Taste – A drier biscuit malt flavor is the first to meet the tongue. A little bit of citrus taste works its way into the taste early on. Hints of lemon are the most prevalent, but there are slighter orange flavors as well. More towards the middle and the end, the citrus subsides and a more flowery/greenish taste mixed with some caramel sweetness come to the tongue. A rather unique and interesting flavor combo.
Mouthfeel – Light in body with a slightly higher than average level of carbonation. The light body and carbonation make it quite refreshing and make for an easy drinking brew.
Overall – Some interesting taste combinations make this a brew to try. It is easy to drink and refreshing.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden color with a hint of orange, this white head. Floral and citrus aroma. Thin mouthfeel. Rather light flavor with some hints of citrus and jasmine and a dry finish. Not a decent, not great kölsch, and I don’t think the addition of the citrus/jasmine flavors improves it or the style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
FROM NOTES: June 29, ’12
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.
A: I get notes of cracker/biscuit malts with some light notes of earthy and citrus hops. There is a light amount of sweetness present as well.
A: Pours a crystal clear golden yellow with light amounts of visible carbonation and a half-finger white head that quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing.
T: Follows the nose then develops a taste with an almost honey-like sweetness and earthiness. There is a light lingering bitterness in the finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate to heavy carbonation. Slightly dry in the finish.
O: Easily sessionable. I enjoyed the flavors of this beer but it is not a classic example of the style.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy light yellow, with a minimal white head. Nicely balanced sweet & bitter tastes with some tanginess too. Strong orange and floral aromas along with malt/grain and notes of vermouth and spice. Average to lively carbonation, has a somewhat creamy/slick texture. Reminds me of a lot of wheat beers.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
7/04/2011: Samuel Adams East-West Kolsch (A Kolsch style beer aged with Southeast Asian Jasmine Sambac flowers; also utilizes Alsation hops)... Aroma: Yep, smells a lot like the traditional Kolsch - Biscuity malt; slightly yeasty, slightly floral (Jasmine is evident, but subtle), slightly grassy, slightly citrusy; smells a bit more sugary or syrupy than typical for the style. Appearance: Appealing yellow color with just a slight chill haze; not much visible carbonation; light, foamy off-white crown. Flavor: Malty and floral; sweet bread, almond, and some crusty-notes; floral throughout with some citrusy undertones; dusty note in the middle; soft finish that kind of just falls off; floral perfume/Jasmine taste lingers on the palate. Palate: Medium-bodied; average carbonation; soft mouthfeel. Overall: This is a decent beer, but really lacks most Kolsch characteristics in the flavor; it deserves a second try (good thing there’s two bottles in the mixed "Summer Styles" 12-pack!).
12 fl. oz. bottle (Enjoy before OCT 2011) from Kroger in Harrison, Ohio. Rating #355 for this beer.
