Deep amber pour with off white luxurious head. Nose is pumpkin pie spicing and herbal/floral hopping. Flavors are surprisingly restrained pumpkin pie, ginger, nutmeg, etc., etc....along with some nicely highlighted caramel and toffee, and tasty herbal hopping. Very rich and creamy texture...(whipped cream, anyone?) Huge alcohol is extremely well hidden. Extraordinarily well done for the style.

Growler from Hop City poured into a tulip glass. Amber color, small tan head that disappears quickly, thin somewhat oily body with medium carbonation. Nose is pumpkin pie, nutmeg, rich sweetness. Taste is less sweet and spicy, more pumpkin meat. The alcohol really burns through on the finish of this beer. This is not a beer for a day of watching football, but a great fall seasonal offering from Sam Adams. Even though these guys are gaining so much popularity, they still continue producing world class high quality craft beers.

Bottle... Clear, dark, copper ale with a mid-sized, tight, mushroom-colored head. Good retention. Big malty nose - caramel, brown sugar and spices with a rumor of smoke. Full-bodied and chewy with dancing carbonation. The flavor is a malty, spicy swirl of caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Finishes sweet and full of holiday spices. I get no pumpkin out of this. More like a winter warmer than a pumpkin ale - maybe even a spiced wee heavy. Hand a glass of this to me without telling me what it is and Iíd say "Thanks. Nice winter warmer." Iím digging it.

Very attractive double pumpkin ale. Nice aroma with lots of pumpkin and spice on the nose. Some sweetness and lots of fall freshness. Beautiful dark color with a nice off white head that leaves lots of lacing. The mouth feel is medium to thick bodied but doesnít linger too much. Itís strong but doesnít taste that way so be warned. Lots of pumpkin and the spices that come out are nutmeg. allspice and as advertised a bit of ginger. All in all a very solid pumpkin fall offering from Sam Adams.

10/3/12. On tap at Kickbackís - without the graham cracker rim that was offered... Darker pour than expected - a deep orangish amber, with a small tan head that fades. The aroma and the flavor are as to be expected here... sweet, barely touches of pumpkin, and plenty of spice. The smokey is extremely subtle. Why must these beers always smell and taste like pumpkin spice candles?

From a bottle poured a brown color with a good amount of head. Sweet spicy malty flavor with a lingering finish.

Bottle from the Folsom BevMo. Pours dark ruddy copper with a very slim beige head (bubbles mostly). Moderate pie spice aromas. Full bodied. OMFG the flavor is very nice. All the usual suspect spices with some squash and nicely roasted malt. Itís not exactly dry, but the spice pretty much balances the malt. The spice sort of oscillates. This is very tasty, and it finishes spicy dryish. Extremely nice "pumpkin" ale.

bottle. clear orange/ruby with a medium, frothy, beige head. strong spiced aroma of nutmeg and allspice with some vegetal pumpkin pulp. the smoked malt is surprisingly potent upon first sip. a punch of booze too. load of spices(kind of peppery with heat). hot cimmonins. a pumpkin beer that will definitely wake you up. palate is a bit harsh to me with the loads of spices and abv. i had a fun time drinking this flavorful brew.

22 ounce bottle. Dark amber color topped by a creamy beige head. Nice smoky roasted malt nose with obvious pumpkin nuances. Hints of molasses and dark rum. Flavor is sweet roasted malt upfront with subtle hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Midtaste is complex malts with smokiness, dried fruits and black pepper. Finish is complex bittersweet with good hop character. This is more about the complex maltiness than the spices. Very tasty indeed!
