COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich and luscious brew indulges in flavor with over 28Ibs of pumpkin per barrel, for a full bodied sweetness and deep russet color. Classic pumpkin pie spices of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice ignite a warmth and spark thatís deepened by an undercurrent of roasty smoked malts. The result is a delectable brew full of enveloping layers of flavor and spice. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting. This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations. Style: Pumpkin Beer Hops: East Kent Goldings, Fuggle Malts: Samuel Adams Two-Row Pale Malt Blend, Caramel 60, Special B, Smoked Malt Extras: Real Pumpkin, Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Allspice

Initially released on tap as "Double Pumpkin" in 2011, it was bottled as "Fat Jack Double Pumpkin" in 2012.

Bright ruby copper in color. Spicy pumpkin aroma. Fall spice flavors, nutmeg, cinnamon & clove followed by more pumpkin notes and a touch of alcohol warmth. Overall, a good solid fall brew...

THOUGHTS: If I didnít know this was a pumpkin beer, I might have never guessed it. Not a bad beer, just not the best pumpkin beer. It was almost like a doppelbock and a Belgian dubbel had a baby. The little bit of smoked malt blended well with both of those styles. Hid alcohol fairly well. I was kind of surprised that I didnít like this more. Way too much going on. Definitely interesting, just not pumpkin-beerish enough for me. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium to dark reed that was nearly blood-red in the glass with an average, creamy, off-white head that mostly diminished but left excellent lacing. The aroma was overly sweet and contained heavy caramel malt; moderate to heavy musty yeast, fruity pumpkin sweetness, smoke, toffee, brown sugar, hints of pumpkin pie spices, bacon, wet do and dog shampoo. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet, moderately bitter and lightly sour with an average to long duration. There was caramel malt, molasses, smoked malt, burnt caramel, maybe pumpkin spices (but it comes across more as spicy yeast), fruity pumpkin, dark candy sugar, maple syrup and bacon. The medium body was sort of creamy with soft but very tingly carbonation and a dry and slightly alcoholic finish.

Bomber - pours brown amber with tan head and decent lacing. Nose is pumpkin spice and metal. Flavor adds alcohol, caramel, and bread. Sweet with spicy finish. Some hop to it. Medium body and sticky. Has qualities of a strong brown ale. Would be nicer without the metal presence and strong alcohol presence.

Bomber, Batch #1. Pours very dark orange, verging on ruby red, with a creamy 2-finger orange/beige head. Nice retention, thick lacing. Aromas of sweet pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and allspice. Light pie crust, brown sugar, and some alcohol, with mild peat and smoke as it warms. The flavor is smoke and pumpkin, smoked spices, and peat. Mild buttered crust, pumpkin, and lots of brown sugar. Medium carbonation and verging on full-bodied. Slightly warming and creamy. Nice! The smoked malt was odd at first, but it grew on me; I think it works in this context. [1111]

This beer started off slow and then blew me away, style-wise. The aroma isnít that strong and the initial flavor isnít that pumpkin-y, but rather has a decent amount of strength. However, as the beer goes along, the strength and the rest of the beer mesh excellently.

Bottle:   Copper hued ruby, thin sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Squashy nose, subtle spices, seems a bit odd and not like other big Pumpkin beers.   Strong yet muted spices on the tongue.   Its spicy, but not bright.   Has a decent amount of smoked malt as well.   As it warms the smoke aspect comes out even more.   Certainly malty on the tongue, body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Finishes with strong yet muted spices, and a good dose of smoked malt.   Moderate sweetness, somewhat bready too.   Hides the 8.5% well, but other than that... not what I was expecting for a big Pumpkin beer.   Lacks brightness, and could stand to be a touch sweeter.

Nocturne (1074) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - FEB 12, 2013
Bottle. Pours a dark amber with good creamy head. Smokey notes in the aroma, almost peaty and chocolatey. Ginger and nutmeg showing as well. A little restrained aroma-wise though. Taste contains plenty of vanilla, caramel, more pumpkin spice and some berry fruit too, but dryness seems to smother things a bit. Ends with a collision of smoke and spice. Not bad but seemed a bit muddled and rough around the edges at times.

Clear copper with a medium tan crown. Aroma of caramel, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger and nuts. Taste of ginger, cinnamon, pumpkin, toffee and nutmeg, kind of a pumpkin pie thing going on. Sweet and spicy, perhaps too sweet but one of the better Sam Adams.

From notes. Draft as Fat Jack. Tastes like pumpkin pie. A lot of spices. Pretty decent.

From notes: From bottled batch #1. Poured clear red-amber with a 3-finger bone-colored head. Aroma of pumpkin meat mixed with allspice. Full body, fairly thick with a creamy finish. Deep pumpkin pie flavor with a touch of caramel and a roasty, yeasty note to the finish.
