3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I had this at the tour back in May, I believe this one was around 8.5ABV, was brewed with pine needles, it was pretty good tasting, would try again if ever got the chance.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had it on tap at the Sam Adams tour. Definately an interesting brew with the juniper berries present but not overhelming. If they ever release it, i would buy from time to time to "taste" with friends, but its not an "everyday" beer by any means.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewery. Pours bright red with a thin white head. Smells of juniper berries, some candies and grapes. Tastes of berries and maple syrup. A weird brew that I doubt will see the light of day outside the brewery.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I also had this on tap at the Boston brewery. It is a gorgeous red color and has a wonderful sweet berry aroma. The flavor is sweet with berries and caramel-like. Going down it has a slight twinge like that of gin due to the juniper berries I’m guessing. It has a syrupy consistency in your mouth. I think it was under carbonated and that resulted in the beer resembling cough syrup too much. I am interested in seeing how it turns out in bottles if they release it. It is too interesting for just one tasting. I can’t wait to try it again. Also, the alcohol is higher than 5.5%. The info card at the brewery said 7% and the tour guide said 9%.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From tap on Sam Adams Brewery Tour (worth the trip). Poured nice brassy red with small foamy head. Very similar to some barley wines. Overall good taste and complexity. A nice variety of flavors on the palate, but not well balanced. Great aroma, but too astringent going down.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
A very unique beer. Beautiful reddish copper pour, but little head. Aroma had an unusual pine scent to it. Almost no carbonation, with a sweet malty, licorice, tangy taste, with a mildly bitter and warm finish. It had a lot of good aspects, but overall it was just kind of hard to drink. Interesting beer, good to try once, but not something I’d buy.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 5, 2006 [tap @ Sunset Grill 2/15/06] Pours a nice cloudy, reddish color. Flavors are quite complex- malts, spicy yeast, as well as aromatic juniper berries and a slight grapefruit finish. An excellent offering from Sam Adams- very unique.
