COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Special batch: This old Scandinavian style uses both juniper berries and bows. An overnight mash adds an interesting malt complexity.

From tap at simmys. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small off white head. Aroma is fruity andnlight toasted malty. Sweet caramelish and light fruity. Mild alcohol bite. Fruity and sweet finish.

22oz bottle-pours copper with a tan head. Aroma is roasty medium malt-caramel. Taste is roasty medium malt-licoricev spice/caramel, slight hop bite.

Dark amber in color with an off-white head. The nose is herbal with lots of spruce, a touch of juniper, and maybe some pine. A nice fruitiness of apples and berries, but there is a definite rubber and metal aroma that is off-putting. Light notes of smoke on the palate with the same herbal character. Light malt sweetness, hints of fruit, and only a minimal juniper flavor. The metal and rubber is also pronounced, which is what really ruins the beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours bright red with a thin white head. Smells of juniper berries, some candies and grapes. Tastes of berries and maple syrup. A weird brew that I doubt will see the light of day outside the brewery.

I don’t know what a juniper is, but it’s not bad. Sampled with S.J.. Some berry, some honey, some caramel malt and sweetness. It’s ok.

bottle. pours a deep brown with small beige head. aroma of some spicy hops, caramelized sugar, and some cloying honey. flavor is similar with some grain as well. similar to a scotch ale

Tasted from tall brown bottle into standard pint glass. It poured a clear deep reddish brown color with beige foam, lasting with lace. Aromas of caramelly malt, ale yeast esters, faint hops, subtly spicy evergreen resin juniper essence. Malty sweet flavor, pilsner and caramel, nice rye bite, more juniper tartness. Medium body and carbonation, well-rounded mouthfeel, sticky aftertaste. I understand the concessions they made, but this was no closer to a true Sahti than New Belgium’s version. Lacked the no-boil turbidity and bakers yeast haze, cheated with hops, etc. Overall impression was that of a weaker, resin-ier Abbey Dubbel. Pretty tasty and interesting, but I wanted to like it more than I did.
