3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle @ home. Brownish, dark orange appearance with an off white head. Pretty rich woody, oaky, big toffee, sweet caramel malty aroma. Lots of wood, oak, rich caramel/toffee, vanilla, mild citrusy flavor thatís mostly dominated really by the wood. It is pretty smooth for 11.5% abv but overall, not my favorite.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
pours light clear orange with finger of sticky off white head. Aroma of toffee, resiny hops, and light fruity tones. Medium bodied and smooth for the abv. I do see the pineapple. Flavor is a first hoppy but then light and fruity on the finish. The toasted oak and hops mix for an interesting combination. Overall definitely a unique take on a barley wine; I"ve had better, but coming from sam adams this exceeded my expectations.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A clear light orange brew with good carbonation at first. I let this one sit a while and warm up. Slight oak and malt aromas. Flavor is a smooth mix of malty sweetness and a interesting grapefruit peel bitterness. Very easy drinking. ABV is hidden really well. Very nice overall.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is clear orange with thin white head out of bottle aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, vanilla, honey, some white fruit, slight orange and citrus notes, touch of biscuit in there as well. Taste is very sweet, honey, vanilla, toasted oak, some slight orange, lemon, and hints biscuity bread. Finishes fairly sweet and a touch alcoholic.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear burnt orange with a small but foamy white head. Aroma of toffee, marzipan, honey, sugar, wood, earth, and slight pepper. Flavor of brown sugar, toffee, caramel, toast, almond, oak, bitter earth, and surprisingly peppery leafy hops. Aftertaste is kinda bitter and drying with a mix of earth, pepper and oak. High carbonation and the flavors are all kinda disparate and the opposite of seamless. I imagine filtering this less would help, but itís still worth trying. Itís just not that great, and you have to like sweet beers to give this a chance.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2012 Nice brew from Sam Adams. This barleywine ale is sweet and has alot of nice flavors present, including pineapple, citrus, toffee, and grapefruit. Finish is long and the alcohol is well hidden. A great and tasty brew.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wow ! First barley wine I have sampled in years. Pours a reddish orange color with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with pineapple notes. Taste is initially sweet and finish long and astringent, however after the initial swallow, the taste buds are saturated and it is sweet and sugary with no alcohol residue and quite flavorful. Very nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bottle from the Beverage House (S.V.) - Pours a clear copper color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Very light lacing. Aroma is fruit, herbal hops, and faint oak. Flavor is sweet malt, fruit, and alcohol. Finish is borderline cloying and vinous. The alcohol is noticeable. I think a little time in the bottle may help this beer. Worth a try.
