COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Small Batch Series: From the aroma and notes of sweet honeysuckle, pineapple, and grapefruit, to richer hints of burnt sugar, and toffee, this intriguing brew is full of complex flavors. The distinct character of toasted oak adds depth and contrasts the light fruit sweetness. This unique take on a barleywine ale surprises with its smoothness and balance of fruit, hop citrus, and warming strength.

Aroma of bitter hops, tons of caramel, and tart, ripe fruits. Taste is plenty of rich, sweet caramel, oak, grassy, floral, burnt sugar, orange melon, berries, grapefruit and booze. Medium palate, nice amount of carbonation. I let this sit for almost 6 months to give it some age. This beer was complex and enjoyable, but a bit rough around the edges. A few more months would have probably made this great.

Bottle is 1 year old. Pours deep amber/brown with 1 finger head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of bubblegum, aged fruit, booze, cotton candy. High carbonation for style. Taste of hop bitterness, caramel, pecans, and oak. Medium body. Finish with mild booze and subtle hop bitterness. Overall, decent, not amazing due to harshness ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rated based on notes taken 25 Feb 2014 -- The oak comes through in a great way. A great sipping beer that has a nice sweet flavor up front that blossoms into a complex end.

22oz bottle - One of the few whiffs from Samuel Adams. I like the idea of doing a barleywine outside the proveribal "box", but it just doesn’t work very well. Aroma is light vanilla, rock-candy, light oak and some oxidized/tropical-fruit combo. Taste has a strange banana/mango angle with a strong prescence of plastic. Honey, burnt sugar and alcohol also present. Seemed like a Belgian ale combined with a barleywine and it took the lesser qualities of each style to make this beer.

"i was pretty impressed with the craftsmanship & uniqueness (as far as barleywines go) of this brew. honey, caraeml and vanilla undertones the citrusy hops (especially in the aroma) and alcohol backbone. perhaps a touch too much alcohol in this beer (i would have liked it at 10% even more). the aspects in the aroma and flavor seem to clash, then blend harmoniously together. smooth body, evident oaking. interesting and tasty beer at a decent price. I’d recommend."

[5733-20130823] 1pt6floz bottle. Spiced grains aroma. Clear, orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Boozy orange peel fruity flavour. Full body is quite boozy. Huge wood notes are a little overpowering but the beer is so boozy it can also handle it. (7/4/7/4/15) 3.7

Transfer from BA review from 6-17-12 Poured from bottle into snifter Appearance – Poured a amber-orange color with a medium white head. The head faded fast to give a medium amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is big of biscuit with citrus and some tropical notes. There is a good presence of alcohol and some light grassy and astringent notes. Taste – A sweet citrus and biscuit flavor greet the tongue. The citrus is largely of an orange and grapefruit nature. As the taste advances, some of the more tropical fruit flavors enter the tongue. These are of mango, pineapple, and a light banana. These start to take over the citrus flavors while the biscuit remains constant. Toward the end the alcohol that was detected in the nose comes to the tongue. This is mixed with an ever so light green/grassy flavor which with the boozy flavor, fruit and biscuit leave a nice warming feel on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is creamy and soothing while the carbonation level is on the lower side. The thickness and low carbonation allow all the fruit and boozy flavors to really be sensed by the tongue. It is very nice and appropriate for the style. Overall – One of the easiest drinking barley wines I have ever had. It has more sweetness then the average. While the nose let on to some astringency the taste did not. It was actually a nice easy sipper.

hotstuff (4269) - Indiana, USA - MAY 21, 2014
Rated on 6-12-2012 (Bottle) This beer has a large semi-fizzy off-white head with a lengthy retention, gold transparent body, slow rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is pine, citrus, grapefruit hops and malty. The flavor is pineapple, fruity citrus hops, sweet, caramel malt, alcohol, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and a bit thin. This beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer is too fruity tasting for my enjoyment and I enjoyed the aroma better than the flavor. It is a sipping beer with the high ABV.

deep golden amber color..left a decent 1 finger head that is quite smooth with a few small bubbles...nice looking offering that has a nose of dried pineapple..sweet malt..wooden notes..mouthfeel is medium bodied with an amazingly smooth not boozy mess..nice amount of carbonation.finishes with a hoppy fruit forward presence with a slight alcohol tinge/burn in a good way..this has some imperial ipa in it mixed into the barleywine..better than anticipated..a few years on this seems to have helped things out here...
