3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From a growler, Pours a golden amber color with a medium off white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of oak, vanilla, and citrus. Tastes of all the same things with pineapple and a little honey added. Mouthfeel is heavy and surupy with light carbonation. Overall this as an average barelywine with a nice added oak flavor. But there are a few things that keep it from being above average.

Draft pour. Pours copper with a quick vanishing head. Juice like. Caramel and malt flavors. Drinks super easy. Very unique beer too. Very good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Transfer from BA review from 6-17-12
Poured from bottle into snifter
Appearance – Poured a amber-orange color with a medium white head. The head faded fast to give a medium amount of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is big of biscuit with citrus and some tropical notes. There is a good presence of alcohol and some light grassy and astringent notes.
Taste – A sweet citrus and biscuit flavor greet the tongue. The citrus is largely of an orange and grapefruit nature. As the taste advances, some of the more tropical fruit flavors enter the tongue. These are of mango, pineapple, and a light banana. These start to take over the citrus flavors while the biscuit remains constant. Toward the end the alcohol that was detected in the nose comes to the tongue. This is mixed with an ever so light green/grassy flavor which with the boozy flavor, fruit and biscuit leave a nice warming feel on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is creamy and soothing while the carbonation level is on the lower side. The thickness and low carbonation allow all the fruit and boozy flavors to really be sensed by the tongue. It is very nice and appropriate for the style.
Overall – One of the easiest drinking barley wines I have ever had. It has more sweetness then the average. While the nose let on to some astringency the taste did not. It was actually a nice easy sipper.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rated on 6-12-2012 (Bottle) This beer has a large semi-fizzy off-white head with a lengthy retention, gold transparent body, slow rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is pine, citrus, grapefruit hops and malty. The flavor is pineapple, fruity citrus hops, sweet, caramel malt, alcohol, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and a bit thin. This beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer is too fruity tasting for my enjoyment and I enjoyed the aroma better than the flavor. It is a sipping beer with the high ABV.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
deep golden amber color..left a decent 1 finger head that is quite smooth with a few small bubbles...nice looking offering that has a nose of dried pineapple..sweet malt..wooden notes..mouthfeel is medium bodied with an amazingly smooth not boozy mess..nice amount of carbonation.finishes with a hoppy fruit forward presence with a slight alcohol tinge/burn in a good way..this has some imperial ipa in it mixed into the barleywine..better than anticipated..a few years on this seems to have helped things out here...

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow orange. Good mouthfeel and carbonation. Sweet and smooth. Love the mild grapefruit. Hides alcohol well. A great session barleywine if there is such a thing.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rated fr0m a b0mber snatched fr0m a l0cal supermarket: It p0ured a deep br0nze b0sy, clear, with a very slender head. The ar0ma was sweet pale malt, earthy h0ps, a spretzen 0f grapefruit, and... I’m n0t sure what. Sweet t0 the taste, a mild citrus bitterness, a spl0tch 0f vanilla, and a w00dy bitter finish. (N0t a sentence that. 0r this.) I was left w0ndering if I’d liked this 0r n0t, which means I’ll pr0bably try it again... which makes n0 sense, I kn0w.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Batch #2, enjoyed to celebrate my landing at least a long-term temp job, which could end up going for a while. Bought Aug. 2012. yes, looks quite blond as barley wines go. Pours a big foamy head too, straight into a small snifter. Smell is, though, kind of volatile and rubbery. I hope that is driven away as the beer gets a moment to breathe, …Okay, after a while, the volatiles have gone away. Still smells a little solventy with alcohol. Still, it has a strong taste that is expected with the style, but I think using lighter malts means you’re giving up more malt character than any other part of the beer can make up for. Especially the toasted oak, which brings in a lot of tannins, more than I’ve run across in an oak-aged beer before. Still, strong alcohol, thick malts do mean I got what I paid for, after all, at $6 a bomber, that’s Lagunitas territory. And it may get better if allowed to lay for a good long time.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Batch 2 bottle. A clear golden body with a white head that had some retention. There was a nice presence of carbonation. Aroma had a strong vanilla quality upfront. Notes if grapefruit, citronella oak and caramelized sugar. There was also a touch of alcohol. Flavor was dominated by burnt sugar and a banana like flavor. Hops were mostly floral and there were notes of grapefruit. Alcohol was a nice warming presence in the finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Starts with a large, upwardly cascading head. Slow to dissipate. Leaves plentiful, chunky lace. The liquid is amber and clear.
Nice smell of warming alcohol and pale malts. A touch of honey in the background. Some grapefruit (hop) notes in the background.
Rich and nearly cloyingly sweet. There is enough bittering hop to bring balance to the taste. The alcohol is ever present. The swallow is an interesting blend of spicy hop and sweet unfermented malt. The aftertaste lasts a long time. I don’t taste any buttery flavors from the oak.
I think this is one of the better Barley Wines.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I have had this bottle for a while and was afraid to break it out. Perhaps it would have done better sitting for a while. This was a bit harsh. Aroma is of alcohol and malt. Nothing distinct, very muddy. Flavor is booze and malt, sweetness, did not match well with chocolate as one wold expect.
