3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer poured out golden amber in color, with a clear and very effervescent body, and a three finger thick head. The smell was difficult to discern at first, due to the large head. Once it died away, I could detect grapefruit, pine, banana, and melon balls. The taste was similar to what I smelled, but with some added spicy influences like coriander seeds and white pepper. While complex, this beer felt a little timid as well. The hops and phenols were quite strong in the finish. This is one beer that will be helped tremendously by an Imperial version, as the current release feels watery. A good throw in into the IPA 12 pack.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On draft at RFD DC. Pours a clear, bright orange with some creamy white head. Nose of apple, candy sugar, mild yeast, cinnamon, breakfast bread. Flavor is sweet, light clove, candy sugar, pear. Medium bodied, sweet finish. Decent, but a touch too sweet for a session ale.

On so a commercial grumpy monk, or a reality tv grumpy monk Is more like it. I hate cloves but I can appreciate what the attempt is. They did it. Bit so did everyone else. Generic.

2.4 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 ounce bottle. Clear honey gold color topped by a fluffy white head. Fruity , caramel malt nose that hints at an estery citrus-like malt aroma. Not sure what to think of this; a paradox of flavors. Caramel notes with earthy, salty malt nuances. This is a tough one to rate. like it, but not sure why. Ugh!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clear dark golden with a foamy head that leaves good lace and lasts a little while. Great aroma of peppery belgian yeast, doughy biscuit, sweet golden cereal grains, a light light touch of bubblegum and a nice pleasant peppery herbal hop tone. Taste is as delightfully belgian as anything coming out of Belgium. There’s some big golden malt sweetness with a backing dose of pepperiness and some doughy biscuit, as well as a balancing and lingering herbal hop bitterness, which finishes back on a bready, doughy, peppery, dusty, sweet, golden cereal grainy maltiness. How come this Belgo-IPA has the most complex malt profile out of any malt-centric styles I’ve had recently?
