COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grumpy Monk is a Belgian IPA. The long held brewing traditions of Belgian monks aren’t meant to be broken. Yet, to the monk’s dismay, the distinctive character of Belgian yeast with its spicy clove and fruit notes can be reimagined when combined with the brazen hop character of an IPA. These hops impart a citrusy, piney, and earthy flavor that’s balanced by a roasted malt sweetness for a complex and playful brew.

Pours a reddish gold with a creamy, off-white head that lingers. Thick lacing. Nose is typical Belgian barnyard, apple butter, spice. Taste is well-balanced. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap, Barley’s, Knoxville. Reddish orange, with a lumpy beige head. Smells yeasty and hoppy. Taste is grassy hops and some yeasty, bubble gum notes. Some earthy malts in the finish. Pretty tasty...

A Belgian IPA, eh? Impressed right off the bat by the brilliant golden color. Smells like cloves, but the grapefruit comes through. Unusual taste, and unusual is good.

Very surprised by this one. Tried as part of the hopology variety pack. Great blend of traditional Belgium and IPA styles.

I smell the sweetness of the malt and the belgian yeast. It almost smells like a candt. Its a clearish red amber color with not very muchwhite head. I taste the typical belgian flavor with an extra bitterness. There is a sweetness but is offset by a bitter lingering aftertaste. Its a mediumish bodied brew with tiny carb bubbles. For a combo beer like this i think sam did a good job. You get bitterness from the ipa but the sweetness and belgian flavor as well.

12oz bottle shared. Poured big orange color with white head. Awesome Belgian aroma with malt and hops. The flavor almost punches you in the face of Belgian and hops was very tasty. Bold flavors throughout. Overall nice job

not very wild tastes. notes of spiciness to compliment the citrusy flavors that hit the middle of the tongue first. bubbly, with hints of earthy flavors up front.
