A perennial favorite at our Brewery Halloween party, this reddish amber ale is perfect for fall. Real pumpkin adds a full body and sweetness, while deep roasted malts lend a toasty finish to this subtly spiced brew.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a dark brown/black colored body and left a one finger white foamy head that lasted less than twenty seconds. The body was too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. Some nice light yet filmy/foamy lacing appeared but settled and slid down the sides of the glass. The smell was superb as not just pumpkin, but allspice, ginger, clove, some slight molasses and cinnamon speckled themselves throughout the entire "pumpkin" aroma. Big wow (at least to me). The taste had all of these typical flavorings and added a slight caramel flavoring, a bit of malt and some extra rich dark fruitiness to it. The palate was about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. This wasnít exactly a very drinkable beer, could be close to a palate wrecker with all that was going on with it. It has a sweet dry finish. Overall, though not very drinkable. I really liked this, probably would have been better if I saved this just a tad longer. This is a very good "pumpkin" ale.

Dark brown and slightly hazy in the glass. The beer starts smooth, slightly malty, a bit spicy. The mainpart is smooth, pumpkin-fruity with a malty body. The mainpart is smooth, malty, pumpkin-fruity, but a bit too subtle for me. The malty body is great, but in combination with the pumpkin a bit too strong. The aftertaste is malty, pumpkin and smooth.
Interesting combination, but for me the pumpkin is too subtle and I miss the typical pumpkin-spiciness. --> 10/12/10/10

Re-review, because I said so. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a beautiful clear copper color. The cream-shaded head is nice - but not as nice as the body - at a bit over one fingers high, but isnít the best retaining. S: Well, itís a pumpkin ale, so of course itís loaded with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. The spicing is heavy, but thankfully itís backed by a canvas of sweet caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. T: Starts with some cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. This sort of descends into a generic finish laden with caramel and toffee. Only flashes of gourd character appear. There isnít much depth, or even much flavor for that matter. M: Way, way, way too heavy on the palate given how mild it is. I say that a lot, and this is a prime example of that pratfall. Itís not even that creamy, either. With medium carbonation, it feels nice enough on the tongue but clashes hard with the flavors presented. O: Itís okay I guess, but itís also boring and hard to drink - two qualities which NEVER go together. Put in the large pile of bland, not-very-good pumpkin ales while I stick with Schlafly Pumpkin Ale, kthx. At least itís better than I initially thought it to be (ícourse, I initially thought it to be horrid instead of just boring back then).

This beer is a pumpkin beer for non-beer drinkers. Its subtle and muted flavors insult pumpkin beers like Southern Tiers Pumpking.

12oz bottle Best before January 2014 A - Crystal clear, dark amber color. A small tan head vanishes before you look at it a 2nd time. S - Sweet pumpkin, allspice, nutmeg, light cinnamon, undercooked pumpkin bread, creamy. The yeast sets in and bands with the malt, which is becoming sweeter by the second, and starts overtaking the fresh pumpkin and spice I noticed on 1st pour. T - Creamy pumpkin filling up front with weird berry fruit esters flaring around. Thereís a cranberry sweetness (without any tartness). Itís pretty sweet and becoming thin as it sets. Generic sweet malt emerges pushing the pumpkin and spices back. Thereís no hops to speak of except a notion of very faint herbal bitterness. Finishes with a thin syrupy malt sweetness. M - Thin wet body but the carbonation helps lift it up a bit at first but drops off about mid glass creating a thin syrupy sweet body with a lackluster finish. This started off good but quickly transformed into a generic sweet liquid. The carbonation was ample at the start which faded, as did the spices and pumpkin, which ultimately lead to a thin sweet malt bomb. I expected more from Sam Adams. If you drink this beer make sure it is ice cold! Donít let this sucker warm up. Serving type: bottle 10-02-2013

12/22/13. Pours translucent dark amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma is caramel, dark malt, pumpkin, syrup, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses. Smells nice. Taste is nice, somewhat creamy; pumpkin, earthy, molasses, caramel, roast malt, some dark fruitiness, spicy. Finish is pumpkin pie. Taste is good. Some light lacing; not remarkable. Medium carbonation. Chewy. Nice flavor. Enjoyable. Not a record setter, but a nice pumpkin ale.

12 oz bottle poured slightly hazy deep amber woth finger tan head that settled to a thin coat. Nicely carbonated, heavy lacing. Nose is pumpkin, nutmeg, spices. Taste is strong nutmeg spice with pumpkin and hint of cinnamon. Sweet from start to finish though finish was a little watered down nonetheless, delicious pumpkin flavor profile.

Pours into a dark copper-like color with a medium sized, dark tan head. Smells strongly of nutmeg and pumpkin. Tastes of spicy nutmeg with a hint of cinnamon and a pumpkin presence throughout. Very heavy, not very drinkable, but a solid brew.

Bottle: Deep copper color with a smallish beige head. No real lacing to speak of, but an attractive ring lasts throughout. Nose is mild with the typical gambit of spices and sweet pumpkin that lends itself to a creamy aroma. There is good pumpkin flavor present and the spices play a supportive role. Mostly nutmeg and a little cinnamon. Drinks well, refreshing for sure.
