A perennial favorite at our Brewery Halloween party, this reddish amber ale is perfect for fall. Real pumpkin adds a full body and sweetness, while deep roasted malts lend a toasty finish to this subtly spiced brew.

Dark brown red pour with an aroma of Halloween spices and a rich taste featuring burnt pumpkin, spices, and maltiness, Harvest Pumpkin Ale seems to improve every time I drink it. I think the "burned" part of the taste profile took me aback the first time I had it in itís inaugural season, but revisiting it after a year, knowing what to expect, this beer strikes me as being a much stronger offering. Neither weak on the pumpkin or the beer, it delivers. Possibly a slightly reformulation for the better in 2011? You wonít be blown away by this, but I predict itíll be one of your favorites from Samís fall mix pack -- not quite up there with the SA Octoberfest, but, what is, really?

12 oz. bottle in the Sam Adams glass. Deep amber pour with a medium off white head. Aroma of pumpkin pie spice, mild sweet fruit, cinamon, pumpkin sweetness. Flavor is mildly sweet, typical pumpkin beer spice, some roastiness. Medium mouthfeel. Not the best example of a pumpkin beer.

So, Iím trying to do something unnatural, and they donít really understand it, but theyíre very upset about it. .. Pours a dark fried chicken brown, with a medium head, lacing is quite impressive too .. . hmm, nice spice aroma, touch of pumpkin and sweet potato .. . pretty good and one of the top pumpkin brews iíve had.. . And youíre trying to keep them from doing whatís natural, which is just letting gravity bring them to the ground, which theyíve had more experience with. Itís a triumph, and Iím done with them.
You know, weíre not getting along.
Weíre basically fighting, and the fight is over.
Now get out of here.

A great season beer that I look forward to drinking each Halloween. Goes great with pumpkin pie.

Bottle from Rite Aid: Formed a small layer of thin head while the liquid was a dark honey brown color. As for the nose, there was a subtle scent of caramel malts I wasnít able to sniff much else. The flavor is astringent and taste like a form of cough syrup medicine. There is a slight taste of pumpkin pie spices, but this just isnít that good of a beer in my opinion.

Bottle. Pours out an orange color with a white head on it. Smell is full of pumpkin spice and cinnamon. Taste sweet and refreshing; unique in terms of a pumpkin beer because it has that typical Sam Adams flavor. A pretty good beer, perhaps the first pumpkin beer I would actually purchase an entire six pack of.

Bottle:   Deep amber, moderate frothy white head, spotty lacing.   Strong clove and nutmeg on the nose.   Similar tongue, very spicy I might add.   A little mealy on the backside.   A little bit of honeycomb like cereal too.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Lingering clove and nutmeg, and maybe even some Bit O Honey like candy.   More flavorful than I thought it would be.   Not too shabby.   Thanks Bob!

Poured crystal clear copper red with a tall foamy beige head. You can hear the bubles popping as the head reduces to just a film over time, leaving a light amount of lacing. There are some carbonation bubbles rising up in the glass. The aroma is mild with scents of clove, nutmeg and caramel malt. The beer has a lightly thick texture and the flavors of clove, pumpkin spice and nutmeg, all of which are mild. Some caramel malt sweetness comes along in the middle, followed by a slightly dry finish.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2013 Has the clove and cinnamon, as well as pumpkin flavor to it, not overly on the vegetables. Has more actual pumpkin flavor to it than others in the style and a little sweeter, pretty good.
