Sampled on 8/17/2012. This brown ale pours a medium brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, sweet and nutty. A medium to full bodied brown ale. The malts are caramel, bready, nutty and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice carbonation. A nice malty and nutty brown ale, with a nice nutty character. Much better than I was expecting. Perhaps a touch sweet. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is somewhat sweet

This brew was the best beer in the variety pack. Smooth, sweet, with a hearty palate. Perfect beer for a cool autumn day. Loved it.

12 oz bottle from a sampler pack from Safeway Salinas. Nose is tons of roast, coffee, and a bit of nuts and smoke. Clear brown with a medium beige head. Flavor is caramel, hints of bitter and buttered toffee, and roasted hazelnuts. Pretty good brown.

Bottle from Joe. Pours a deep amber color with a thin tan head that lingers. Aroma is hazelnut and a bit floral. Mouthfeel is overly fizzy for me. The hazelnut flavor is sweet and up front and lingers a bit but not too much. You would definitely have to like hazelnut or this is not for you. Reminds me of Sea Dog’s Hazelnut Porter but not quite a full bodied or as good. I do like this but probably wouldn’t want many of them in one sitting as it does get a bit cloying.

bottle: brown with small off-white head. Aroma is hazel nutty, bready, malty, and a little hop spice. Flavor is nutty with a chocolate roast grain, caramel and a slight hop spice at the end. Sweetness dominates with big malty mouth feel. Heavy but nice flavoring.

Bottle. Poured a reddish brown color with a light tan top that lasted throughout. Taste was extremely complex: nutty, caramel, vanilla, toffee, roasty, and delicious. Medium to low carbonation. Smooth finish. Damn good brown!

12 oz bottle from the fall variety pack. Pours deep brown but looks red in the light; has a medium collapsing beige head. Aroma is caramelly, toffee-ish, nutty. Taste is sweet, roasty, nutty. Nice beer, although the rauchbier from last fall’s variety pack was much more interesting. That one needs a comeback!
