White fizzy head portends a fair amount of carbonation. Nose is robust with porter dark sweets. Flavor is decent, but becomes a rather bland, uniform tone of chocolate roast. It could have been a pretty good beer with either a more pronounced hop character (tip to America) or creamy texture (tip to England).

Aroma of mild coffee and chocolate, mahogany, pours a large toffee head, pretty lace. Tastes of roast coffee, dark chocolate and pecans. Medium bodied, nicely balanced, bitter and bold with a dry finish. Very good.

Dark brown pour with a light brown head. Nose of lightly roasted malts. A bit watery, weaker than expected flavors of malt & cocoa. Pretty average porter.

Sampled out of the Holiday variety pack. Dark brown with a nice tan head. Smell had chocolate, vanilla, coffee and caramel. Rather weak though. Taste was solid but a bit watery. Pretty good.

12 oz. bottle. I thought this was decent. Nice looking very dark pour with a head that lasted the whole glass. Lacing just slipped away, however. Not much aroma at all. Mostly metal. But the flavor was much better. Chocolate, and other roasty malts. Not a lot of finish, but some hops made it decent. OK stuff.

Not a very prominent aroma, but i mainly get some sweet chocolate. A rather descent beer. Flavor is the usual coffe and chocolate but just not as robust as some porters. But, it comes out to be a well rounded easy drinkin porter. Impressed for somethin from a macro.

Roasty scent, not too thick, easy to drink versus other porters. A little bitterness at the end, which gives a little bite to it.

I will first began by saying this years Holiday classics sampler pack is the most impressive one I have seen in a long time. Thank god Jim and company have decided to scrap the inclusion of the miserable Sam Adams light and instead given us a nice assortment of beer styles. With heavier fare like the Holiday porter, and Black lager would please any dark beer fan. Also included is the favorite Old Fezziwig and the usual appearances by the Winter lager, Cranberry lambic, and Boston lager revive some familiar feelings. I really enjoyed the Holiday porter and hopefully it becomes a permanent player in the winter sampler!

Sweet roasty aroma. Thick tan head on a black body with ruby edges. Delicious roasty flavor with some sweet caramel flavor. A little hoppy herbalness. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but pleasing. Awesome.

The Holiday Porter was quite possibly the highlight of the NYC BrewTopia fest for me. Malty, rich and not that alcoholic. A touch sweet with little bitterness. Lovely.
