Bottle from Winter Classics variety pack. Pours a dark coffee colour with a thick 1 finger dark khaki head. Aromas of chocolate, toffee, coffee bean. Mouthfeel: creamy malt, bittersweet chocolate, tart finish. A nicely balanced porter, nothing outstanding but easy drinking nonetheless.

chinchill (1900) - South Carolina, USA - MAR 2, 2013
12 oz bottle served in snifter. Pours clear and coffee-colored with a dense tan head that rises to the top of a pint glass but not over ... near perfect. Head has very good retention. Very good aroma but too subdued. Medium-full and near creamy body with moderate carbonation. T - This "holiday" porter does NOT feature pronounced "holiday" spicing like cinnamon and nutmeg. It does feature a smooth, roasted malt taste as part of its rich complex flavor. Hops are also readily detectable. More subtle flavor notes of chocolate, coffee, spices, and vanilla. Nice balance of sweet and bitter. Particularly nice finish for a porter. Should be a great accompaniment to a rich holiday meal.

12 ounce bottle
This was part of a sampler. It isn’t a bad porter but after about half the bottle I was ready to move on. For a widely available porter it beats the alternatives but I suspect that closer to home you can come up with something better. Tick and move on.

Aroma / Appearance - The light black base pours fluidly. A thin head collapses over time. Tart and malty it has a tang like roasting chocolate over an ashy firepit. Coffee undertones help rescue a more boring first impression.

Flavor / Palate - Dry and bittersweet chocolate are ashy. For the $1 entry fee this wasn’t bad but I got bored after just a few sips. There’s nothing too interesting here. Even so I’d share it with people just getting into beer who might be scared off by huge beers that smack you in the face.

Decent porter, but it wasn't anything special to me. It wasn't terrible by any means, but just standard. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aromas ligeros, sin embargo bien definidos. Destacan aromas a maltas tostadas, caramelo y chocolate.

nike (967) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 31, 2013
12oz bottle, black pour, tan head, caramel, chocolate malt aroma, taste of roasty, chocolate, coffee flavoring. light body, average carbonation, thin feel for a porter, lacking the bite you would expect from a porter. Light sweetness, lightly bitter finish, well balanced as most SA brews are. Overall, this beer is good, lacking some flavor to it, mild, as most SA are.

A: nuts and english hops. A: pours a dark maroon with a thick dirty white head. Some lacing left. T: caramel and malt. P: like a lot of SA’s beers, on the thin side. O: could drink a couple but lacks the umph of a good porter.

It poured a dark brown color with not much lacing. The smell has a mixture of malts and spiced hops. The taste is sweet with some earthy tones surrounding the malts. The palate is medium to heavy with a rich carbonation hitting the tongue. It has a creamy aftertaste and mild sticky finish. Overall, this is a great beer in the seasonal pack.

Ok; not one of the better porters, or the best of the Holiday Sampler. Decent, but too much bitterness and spice for my liking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Boutip (4738) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 25, 2013
Bottle: Poured a black color porter with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light dry chocolate notes with medium roasted malt notes. Taste is a mix of roasted malt with dry bitter notes and some light black chocolate notes with some subtle floral notes form the Golding hops. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not the most complex porter put there but well brewed and easily drinkable.
