junon (126), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Mar 5, 2008 Looked beautiful. Thicker than the last few porters Ive had. Definite roasted quality through out but is fairly subtle. I assume that the use of the honey was not for its actual flavor but just to sweeten a little. It does have this mild sweetness to it. Overall this is pretty good. Sam Adams is a great brewery which I am very proud of. However I think they try to do too much. Seems like they are trying to make "ok" beers in all styles. Rather than "great" beers in a few.
timsilvia32 (166), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Aug 4, 2008 Brown/black pour. A fairly standard porter with a little honey near and at the finish. A solid medium body. The hops help finish it a bit bitter and clean. Once again not bad for being mass produced. I think some of these ratings are low just because of that fact. Beershine (1150), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2008 Bottle. Mainly opaque dark brown with a reddish tint and a tan aerated head. Slight honey, vanilla cola, slight diacetyl. Thin, fizzy, gassy. Flavors beat the aromas. Nice roasted malt aftertaste following a not-to-sweet hint of honey. A little burnt in the finish. Decent supermarket beer. Much better as it warms up. Baumgartner (42), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 Bottle poured to glass. Smokey roasted malts aroma, with a hint of honey. Large creamy head. A little hard to judge appearance because I had to use an opaque cup. Sweet flavor up front quickly followed by a bitter hoppy and slightly acidic aftertaste. WakeandBake (14), Greenville, Michigan, USA Aug 3, 2008 Pours dark, looks pretty in my glass. There seems to be alot going on here,I get a chocolate, caramel, honey nose. Feels silky in my mouth, with a many facetted flavor, wood, smoke, honey, vanilla, chocolate, hops, malt roast mmmmmmmm, I plan to buy this again ,soon. joebudzjoe (85), USA Aug 2, 2008 Burnt honey aroma mixed in typical porter features; malts, but sweeter than your average porter. Moist palate.
