Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark yellow with a small off white head that fades fast. The smell is obviously dominated by hops, with some sweet notes and some citrus. The taste starts sweet with the strong hop flavor booming loudly, then fleshes out to a full flavor with nice tones of the hop. It finishes somewhat bitter, with a long bitter aftertaste that has you wanting another sip. The mouthfeel is smooth, nice carbonation, a medium body, a bit heavier than the usual pilsner. This one is great for any hopheads out there. A great flavor, nice to drink, and you cannot tell that this beer has a higher ABV. Definitely worth checking out, a great beer! Hoppy, Hoppy, and Hoppy.

This is an odd beer. Poors an orange gold with an intense hop aroma and an equally intense hop flavor. The hops are floral and not spicy, but nonetheless, this is certainly a sipping beer.

Clear golden with medium off white head. Hoppy nose with caramel notes. Sweet flavour with toasted malt, caramel and loads of hops. Bitter finish. I like pilsners like this!

I usually love the brews from Sam Adams, but this was pretty aweful. Not well balanced, very sour. Yes I know they warn you that there is a lot of hops in it, but My God! this tastes like you are just chewing on the hops. Color good, nice pour, mild carbonation, wickedly sour taste.

Bottle pours cloudy gold with a white head. Has a wonderful hop, citrus, pine aroma that reeks of resins. Has a full body mouthfeel. Flavor is full on citrus, pine, and finishes with a malt sweetness. Overall this is a very nice brew. One that I enjoy each year.

Major hoppiness to this one. Cloudy medium amber color. Thick texture and average head. This brew is all about the hops. Surprised this was not more bitter. Pretty balanced for a European strong lager.

Bottle from AJ Via Linda. Man if you need to get F-ed up, down a couple of these hop bombs. The thick resiny quality of a Dogfish 90 but without the American citric undertones. This smells and tastes like liquid marijuana. I cant believe this comes more than a bottle at a time.

The perfect color of beer...cloudy orange gold, pouring with a thick foam white head that laces heavy like a blanket. Mild malt aroma very balance with obligatory hops. Consistency is like 2 percent milk. Flavors include floral hop notes, tasty bitterness, light sweetness from the malt. Composure is very clean and serious. Finish is a little bit thick and sweet.
