Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Pours a golden orange with a nice white head. Aroma of hops, pine, malt. Flavor is thick sweet, bitter, grapefruity and piney. Initially it seems thick and sweet but immediately the bitterness kicks in. Interesting brew, glad to have tried it.

Bottle from wolf. Nice orange color, decent head. Good aroma of hops. Taste is like an IPA. Like eating a pine tree....LOL....I would of guessed that it was a Euro lager. Taste was the same as the nose, hops, clean and crisp. Texture and carbonation level were average. Overall a beer that I enjoyed. Thanks wolf for sharing.

From a 2008 bottle. Amber with a cream color small head and fair lacings. Aroma is bold floral hops. Bitter resinous hops smack the tongue right away and later the full caramel malts lend some relief to the overall bitterness. The label says 8.1% abv which was well hidden in the taste. Bitter hops are relentless. Full bodied. Not a session beer IMO.

This poured a wonderful copper in color with a moderate head of very fine off-white bubbles. Aromas are of citric hops balanced by semi-sweet caramel malt and a tough of bread dough. The flavors from the nose continue into a medium-bodied beer that is hoppy with good balance. The midpalate and finish are qutie dry from the hops with the malt adding a touch of sweetness to balance the hoppy bitterness.

Bottle. Poured a very pretty burnt orange color. Aroma was wonderful. Very floral and hoppy. Flavor was a big old whammy of HOPS. Some citrus and pine. Very sticky in my mouth. Wayyy too hoppy for me, but I bet it makes you hop heads happy!
