Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Bottle. Poured a clear copper/red color with a small white head. Aroma of spice and hops. Flavor is very hoppy, with a decent malt backing. Medium/full body with good carbonation and a creamy/sticky mouthfeel.

A copper color with a thick white head. Aroma is of deep, spicy hops. Flavor is all hops. Spicy, wonderful hops. Mouthfeel is impressive, and finish is still hops. Basically, much better than any imperial lager I’ve ever had. Obviously special, and very good.

08 version: Boom! This is the first pilsner that I have ever enjoyed so immensely. I am in love with this beer, it has explosively fresh pungent hops, some light fruit malty sweetness, booming head that settles to an ever present lacing, traces of Hallertau are left behind, flavors are skewed to the hops, but a sweet balanced fruity malts rounds things out, the finish is very long, palate is velvety, there is a pinch of peppery alcohol right there with it all... I’m going to hoard a case for myself. Lovely Pilsner IPA, absolutely lovely, and affordable by today standards.

Bottle. Bought a case of this stuff on a whim and loved it. Poured a golden color with a white frothy head. Aroma is hoppy and malty all at the same time. Taste is nice and hoopy with a malt finish vice nice.

This one was a surprise. I was talked into it by my retailer, as I have shied away from the bigger breweries. However, this one is very good. Nice amber color with a huge white head. Big, as promised hop bite, yet very smooth and drinkable. Not like a Pilsner, more like a watered down IPA.

New batch (2008) at the brewery. Pours a hazy deep golden with a fluffly long lasting head and nice solid lace. Aroma is almost resinous with how much hallertauer hops are in here- insanely floral and fresh with a good big pils malt backbone to stand up to the hops. I like how the malt is perfect- it serves a good frame fro the hops but doesnt get sweet, sharp or thick like other imperial pilsners- the hopss come through perfectly- tons of fresh floral and lightly herbal hops, lgith citrus notes, and an insanely good bitter finish that makes you want more. I think Ill buy quite a bit when this comes out.

Copper color, frothy head, nice lacing. Hoppy bitter aroma. Overly bitter and hoppy without having much character. Tastes like a poorly made IPA. Watery mouthfeel. Could be a lot better. I bought this as Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner.
