Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Overall a very good beer and highly recommend giving this one a try. When the beer is first poured, the aroma of bitter hops really hits the nose. Pours golden orange with a nice head that dwindles down but doesn’t disappear. First sip is a very good bitterness from the hops, not raw but a good aged taste, followed up by a slight malt taste and a semi-strong alcohol feel. The longer time between the sips you allow yourself, the more you are rewarded. The full flavor of the hallertau shines through and seems to stick to the tongue allowing the flavor to linger for a few minutes. Surprised me at how long the flavor lasted and how much better it got in between sips.

Pours hazy orange with tall thick white head that lasts quite a while. Aroma is fruity hops (not pine, but more melon), wow! This is Sam Adams??? Intense hops, with long bitter finish. Delicious -- I love this style if this beer at all represents it. Pleasantly surprised.

This is definitely interesting, but not THAT fun. Hoppy taste, or more exactly, extremly hoppy taste. Bitter.

12oz bottle. BB4 Jan 2008. Looks like a cloudy orange IPA. Lasting frothy leaves a thick sticky coating on the glass. Smells like an IPA, citrusy. Cleaner lighter body than expected. Makes me think of Hopslam. Way to delicious and drinkable. Sad the way familiarity dampens the excitement from the first exciting sip. Thanks Poperinge!

Oct. 2007 - Labelled "Hallertau Imperial Pilsner". Fluffy head and pale color. Aroma of grassy hops. Super strong grassy hops behind very sweet malty backbone. Touches of floral aspects as well. Pretty good even though maybe a tad too sweet.

Bottle at the Bayou. Pours a cloudy orange with a light and fluffy white head. The aroma is just amazing; tons of honey drenched all over hops. The taste is similarly dominated by a sweet honey and maltyness and a really bitter and spicy hops. It was quite hot for 8%, but in a good way. An aggressive beer, but well crafted. Great.

12 oz bottle. Poured an autumn gold with a small creamy head. Hops most evident in flavor rather than aroma, which is grassy. Flavor is a bit sweet on the front, hoppy and bitter on the end, with a thick palate.

Pours golden with a nice big whie foamy head. Aroma of hops. Taste is astrong hops. A little bitter. I’m a Sam Adams guy. I also like B.S.A.’s. This is a little to hoppy for me.
