Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

very nice golden appearance with a sweet pilsner malt nose. flavor has some nice buttery pilsner malt with a huge hop component that is very pleasant. someone had told me this beer resembles a double ipa more than a pilsner, but i disagree, this is a hopped up pilsner that is very pleasant. very good beer

12oz, 2007 bottle, this beer is the one of the hoppiest in the world???? uh okay, well nice try BBC, This tastes like a bittter, mixed with some IPA, but not much, a deeper more darker bitterness, combined with a lighter look and mouth... not bad for BBC, again much props to them for trying something different and cranking out an 8.8% ABV commercial brew.

12oz Hallerau Imperial Pilsner bottle. Looks, smells and tastes like a bitter, so I’m not quite sure how this is an Imperial Pilsner (although I like the idea). Pours a translucent orange with a creamy, whispy slightly off white head that leaves layers of sediment as you empty the glass. Smells hoppy, heavy on the orange, with a hint of european yeast. Flavor is malty and bitter, more orange, lemons, slightly metallic. Finish is smooth, bitter in the throat (what did you expect?) and slightly oily. No hints of increased alcohol. Overall, drinkable and a nice departure from other Sam offerings. Imperial Pilsner, I don’t know, but it’s worth a try and I like the effort.

Bottle. Chalky hop aroma. Cloudy orange/amber with a thin patchy head. Terrible flavor, rotten fruit/skunky hops. Intense unbalanced bitterness on a dry palate. Bad bottle?

12 oz bottle poured into a lager glass. Pours orange with a large white frothy head. The head shrinks back a little but for the most part sticks around. There is not much lacing. Looking through the glass there is quite a bit of bubbles floating to the top. The beer is also hazy. The aroma is piney along with a little citrusy. Taking a drink it is very bitter, the hop flavor is piney, grassy and slightly fruity, grapefruit. The bitterness sits on the back of the tounge for a long time. The body is light to medium with a creamy testure and fizzy carbonation. Overall I liked this alot, I never had a Imperial Pilsner before, but am going to try more. Very hoppy and bitter.
