AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Nov 8, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2008This pours an attractive hazy yellow, orange, hue with a very fluffy, pale yellow head. Smells a bit of a IIPA but a little lighter. Taste is very nice, with some lemon peel, hoppy bitterness balanced out by a sweet caramel, with a slight bitter finish. Definitely more like an ale than a lager. This is the best Sam I have ever had. Well done, BBC.
RERATE- Had a taste of an ’05 bottle. DON’T AGE THIS STUFF! It doesn’t end well. NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Nov 8, 2007 The aroma was spicy and earthy with a strong malt backbone and a fragrant hop presence. The aroma was lightly fruity (in a hop sense) and a bit grassy. The beer poured into the Sam Adams glass hazy golden amber with a barely off-white frothy head which lasted to lace the glass. The flavor was very nice with strong bittering followed by a pronounced hop flavor. The flavor was grassy, earthy and spicy with a good malt backbone which contained caramel. The hops were well done in both flavor and bittering and led to a nice overall brew. The finish was dry with lasting hops into the aftertaste with a bit of an herbal character. The body was medium-full with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy texture on the palate. A really nice Imperial Pils! 12 ounce bottle. 2007 release. Jvittorio4187 (255), Boardman, Ohio, USA Nov 7, 2007 Impressed with Sam. I was very scetchy to try this beer. "An intense hop experience." on the bottle, and no doubt it was. Pours a hazy orange with a fluffy whit head. The aroma of this beer just radiates from the glass. Massive hops and fruit on the nose. Massive hops on the palate with very little sweet malt. Strong lingering hop finish. Pilsner? More like an IPA to me. But very good. thomat (666), Göteborg, Sweden Nov 7, 2007 Hazy golden with a thick white foam. Lots of hoppy notes with some fruitiness. Hops, malt and some malt. Full body with a long bitter finish. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Nov 7, 2007 Bottle, Nice hoppy aroma, citrus with some lighter cereal malts. Pours a nice slight cloudy orange color, with a white head. Hops are noticible at first taste but with little variation, some grapefruit some pine, a bit resiny. Finishes mildly sweet., the color seems a bit dark to be a pilsner, nor is it very sparkling in color, its like an unfiltered pilsner with carmel malts added. Hmm how is this still considered a pilsner. Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 5, 2007 Bottled. An unclear orange beer with a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and hops as well as light notes of prunes and dust. The flavor is sweet with a powerful malt and alcohol note as well as a light salt note, leading to a very bitter finish. The body is thick. Not as clean as a pilsener should be - more like an ale in its expression. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 4, 2007 Man, Bought this beer thinking it was a different beer.Orange with huge head. Aroma of malt and pungent hallertau hops. The taste was the samw with light toffee sweetness and good bitter finish. Thick slightly syrupy body. mystiksc (46), los angeles, California, USA Nov 4, 2007 07’ Imp. Must say, I am surprised. Amazing floral hoppy aroma. A blast of citrusy hops on the palate. And after that, more hops. Balanced nicely by a light bitter-sweet spicy caramel flavor. Alcohol is highly hidden. Very drinkable brew. My favorite pilsner to date!!
