Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

Pours hazy orange color with white head. Sweet floral hop aroma. Sweet malt flavor with lots of hop bitterness and citrus taste. Medium body with lively carbonation. The best SA brew I have had so far.

Pours a hazy orange color with a thin white head. Aroma is citrus and grassy hops. A little bit of grapefruit flavor, but the taste is dominated by bittering hops. Dry finish that really grabs the back of your throat with the hop finish. An enjoyable beer but, unless you’re a certifiable hophead, not enough complexity there for this to be a routine addition to the fridge.

Very pretty beer. probably as good as a Pilsner can be, but still a Pilsner.

Pours a five-finger off-white head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Cloudy light amber color. Piney hoppy nose. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is a hop-head’s delight although there is a faint sweetness midway, finish is bitter with an incredibly long lasting bitter aftertaste. To me not worth the $1.50 for a 12oz bottle (usually $8.99 for a 4pak) from Capitol Convenience Concord, NH.

APPEARANCE: Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a Medium white head that dissipates at an average rate. Long lasting lacing. SMELL: Earthy hop smell much stronger than your typical pilsner. Also toasty malt mash. Hint of key lime pie. TASTE: Earthy / woodsy bitterness predominates. There is some slightly sweet caramel/doughy malts to balance. Finishes with a grapefruit type bitterness that lasts a long time. The hops or the alcohol also give the beer a spicy quality. MOUTHFEEL: Medium to full bodied beer. Feel "thick" in the mouth. Light carbonation. DRINKABILITY: Good flavor but the long lasting bitterness makes it difficult to drink a lot of. This tastes more like an ale than a pilsner to me. NOTES: BBCSD-E3 Dan M

Bottle. This beer was pretty darn good. Pours a darker yellow. White head that last a while. Very hoppy and bitter. Great beer.
