Commercial Description:
2005 info:This lager is made with fresh Bavarian hops, straight off the vines from the 2005 harvest in Germany, and packs an 8.8 percent alcohol content that's twice as strong as most popular beers.
Boston Beer Co. is brewing only 60,000 24-oz. bottles, which are due to begin arriving in stores in November.

2007 release info:
Yes, we're a little obsessed with hops. Every autumn for over twenty years, Jim Koch has traveled to one of the oldest hop-growing regions in the world, the Hallertau region of Bavaria in Germany, to hand-select Noble Bavarian hops, including the Hallertau Mittelfrueh variety. This special variety is considered to be one of the best in the world, prized for its unique taste and aroma. Samuel Adams® Hallertau Imperial Pilsner is a celebration of these extraordinary hops. This beer is one of the hoppiest in the world, without being overly bitter. With the first sip, you will experience an explosion of some of the world's finest hops. And we mean “explosion” in a good way. Brewed as a showcase for the hops, this bold brew highlights the spicy, citrus flavors and aromas of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops that are abundant in the recipe. The intense hops flavor is balanced with the slight sweetness from the malt. The brew remains pleasantly well-balanced from beginning to end, due to the quality of the hops, and continues to always be, well, "hoppy," providing hop lovers with an amazing beer drinking experience.
Available in 12oz. bottles.

This brew is just about as hoppy as you can possibly get. Almost ridiculous. Pours a cloudy amberish orange with a short-lived off white head. If I were to take a blindfolded taste test I would put money on this one being an IPA. I wasnt as fond of this beer as many others have been. I bought a four pack and by the third one I was ready for something else. This was too fricken hoppy for my taste.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear orange/gold with a nice beige head. Aroma of hallertau, citrus, malt sweetness. Taste is also very nicely hopped with hallertau. Finish is nicely bitter. Body is full and sticky. Overall, a nice hoppy pils and something interesting from Sam Adams.

Not a big fan of Pilsners, so this one had me cautious heading in and I came out pleasantly surprised. Mega cloudy orange with a slowly fading lacey large white head. Aroma of noble and Hallertau hops, citrus, orange, mild alcohol and malt. Taste of heavy noble hops with a heavy mouth feel and some minor warming. Very interesting, almost too many hops but hey it made this Pilsner pretty enjoyable. Finished semi bitter. If only Miller tasted like this…

Surprise... This beer is great. Bright slightly hazy golden pour with orange tint and generous off-white head. Big fragrant Hallertau aroma. Floral and lovely. Not too hot given the ABV. Well balanced. Quite enjoyable. Great style of beer.

This is seriously surprised me. Golden color, apricots, bready, caramel nose. Full bodied, very well balanced, bready notes with apricots lingering in the finish. Very nicely put together.

330ml. Wow this is big. Golden colour with creamy white head. Big rich fullness in the aroma - warmth, fruit and a bit candy also. Bitterness from go to wo. Grapefruit pith with a full on lingering assalt on the tastebuds Needs to be drunk colder or it gets ’hot’ as it warms. Cleans the sinuses and definately only 1 glass required

12oz bottle. Pours an off-white, almost tan lacing head with a golden amber body. Smells of hops and caramel malt. Tastes the same. Sticky sweet with a pronounced hop character.

Beautiful dark amber pour with a lasting foamy head and decent lacing. Big aroma of sugary hops. Flavor is huge hoppy bitterness, along with some floral and citrus. Caramel and brown sugar malt gives it balance. Really an enormous beer, much more so than I expected. They certainly didn’t leave much out of this one. Well done.
