COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our take on the stout brewed by 18th century English brewers for the Russian Imperial Court of Catherine II. The special malted barley in this intense and massive brew delivers rich flavors like dark chocolate, coffee and anise.

Bottle from The Liquor Collection, Honolulu, HI
Black color, with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, with treacle, light liquorice and light oxidisation. Correct body structure, with flavor of roasted malt, some chocolate; smooth and a bit creamy, with light ending liquorice and pepper.
Not bad, quite big, but still unexciting.

Bottle at ChrisO "I’m Trying to see the Stool" pre GBBF2010 tasting. Drinkable impy stout (which I do like, I like my impy stouts to make me want to drink it again), Good mild choc. Very drinkable.

Oakes (13272) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 29, 2009
Inky with a thin head. Strong burnt raisin nose with a light coffee and stinging alcohol. Has a nice soft, rounded body. Nice residual sugars - not to cloying. The burnt/roast character is perhaps a bit underdeveloped but the beer is balanced. Pleasant.

Koelschtrinker (12210) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 7, 2011
10/11/11/13/12/12

Bottle from Monument, in Concord, CA. Opaque black with tan bubbles on top. Aromas of tar and anise. Near full body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is anise, tar, coffee and chocolate over dark burnt toast malt, smokey even. Finishes mildly sweet and quite bitter. So it’s balanced? This is a really good thing.

Bottle from S&V, Fort Wayne. Poured black color with a large creamy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy smooth sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where met with a solid drinkable beer.
