Our take on the stout brewed by 18th century English brewers for the Russian Imperial Court of Catherine II. The special malted barley in this intense and massive brew delivers rich flavors like dark chocolate, coffee and anise.

Bottle from The Liquor Collection, Honolulu, HI
Black color, with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, with treacle, light liquorice and light oxidisation. Correct body structure, with flavor of roasted malt, some chocolate; smooth and a bit creamy, with light ending liquorice and pepper.
Not bad, quite big, but still unexciting.

Bottle at ChrisO "I’m Trying to see the Stool" pre GBBF2010 tasting. Drinkable impy stout (which I do like, I like my impy stouts to make me want to drink it again), Good mild choc. Very drinkable.

Inky with a thin head. Strong burnt raisin nose with a light coffee and stinging alcohol. Has a nice soft, rounded body. Nice residual sugars - not to cloying. The burnt/roast character is perhaps a bit underdeveloped but the beer is balanced. Pleasant.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2016 Bottle. Pours black with a small creamy head. Roast, dried dark fruit, licorice and a whiff of spices - ash/charcoal like notes. Very soft and full bodied. Bitter roasted finish. Bang for the buck!

Bottle, 9.2%. Fruity and roasted aroma. Black colour. Small stable brown head. The flavour is roasted and jammy. Creamy with a touch of smoke and salt. Very late mild coffee aftertaste. Creamy to watery mouthfeel. Uncomplicated but good.
