COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sam Adams Imperial White pushes the boundaries of a witbier. While the brew delivers orange and coriander notes typical of a witbier, it has a bigger mouthfeel and body. It is truly a unique brew.

Appearance: very cloudy, almost opaque, deep golden almost amber color, thin head fades quickly Aroma: lemon, caramel, banana, orange, Taste: orange, rich, creamy, hint of spice, maybe a bit of hops on the aftertaste, can taste the alcohol too Palate: crisp on the tongue initially, thicker than I expected, faint aftertaste Overall: smells great, I'm going to dock it for tasting the alcohol, strong orange ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark tan, looks like a barleywine, not a witbeer; I was initially concerned I got a mislabeled bottle. But the aroma smells like a sweet wit, fruity and almost bubble gum. Taste is amazing, very sweet for a wit with a strong coconut flavor. If you told me this was a coconut beer, I’d believe you. Very thick, which I am looking for in these "imperial" versions of regular styles. Not hot at all, the alcohol is barely there. There is a bit of wit beer still in this beer, but I’m glad to see Sam Adams take this over the top and make something that defies classification. Though I am giving it the slightest deduction in points for not really tatsing like a wit...I loved it.

Bottle a ÖÖWF 2012. Nose rich in coriander, smells very sweet. Taste: yeast, toffee, vanilla and a hint of coconut. Complex as hell

This witbier is very nearly a wheatwine, in my opinion. It packs some serious heat along with a pleasant complexity in flavor. Surprising offering from SA/BBC. As a witbier, it’s too hot and too syrupy, though.

Thick and syrupy sweet. Very hazy appearance. Distinct orange flavor with a bit of spiciness.

Pours a hazy golden, like honey. Plenty of head and carbonation. Nose is light, yeast and maybe some of the spice. It is very soft on the tongue. Tastes of yeast, orange peel, sugar and coriander. Felt like a small amount of banana and spice. Bitter finish and no hint of the 10.3%.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2012 Pours a hazy orange/amber with a 1-inch off-white head and visible sediment... Probably should’ve decanted this one into the glass. Aroma is citrus and yeast. Taste is almost cloyingly sweet, even when chilled, with a little bit of malt and hops which are overpowered by the alcohol and citrus notes. I’m not really sure what to make of this brew... it’s certainly unique, but I think the thick, chewy mouthfeel and 10% abv cancels out any chance this beer had at being refreshing. This honestly feels more like drinking a very weak liqueur than a beer. Not bad, but it just doesn’t seem like beer. EDIT: Second bottle I decanted into the glass, with much better results. Result was much, much more attractive in the glass, and less chewy/yeasty on the palate. Still, this pales in comparison to the other beers in the imperial series.

Pours cloudy orange with a medium off-white head. Aroma is wheat and grains with a subtle yeast background. The taste is viscous with sweet pilsner-like malts. Alcohol is only slightly noticable. Decent overall.

12 oz bottle from Spirits Brick. Poured a good looking thick bodied orange that isn’t so much cloudy but just thick and dense, lots of floating particles and a creamy average sized off white head. Aroma is interesting and did not match the brewers description at all. I’m getting some initial bubblegum and apple followed by lots of wet wheat that adds an almost menthol touch and some raisin bread dough. The body is great, thick, full and creamy with carbonation. Tat starts off subtle and slightly builds along with just a touch of alcohol heat on the end. Flavors of bubble gum, alcohol, wet wheat, some old rotting citrus rinds. Not bad and a nicely hidden super high ABV.

Pours honey golden and transparent with a very small head that recedes quickly. Nose is weak. Caramel, orange and coriander. Taste is sweet and overpowering bitterness. Mouthfeel is soft, body is heavy and long finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
