COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sam Adams Imperial White pushes the boundaries of a witbier. While the brew delivers orange and coriander notes typical of a witbier, it has a bigger mouthfeel and body. It is truly a unique brew.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy copper with a decent light tan head. Smells of candy wheat and seasoning. The taste is of tons of coriander, soft wheat, slightly citrusy, and nice soft carbonation. Flavors of some light fruit come through, like candy apple, grape, lemon. Very good beer.

Narnad (1471) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2009
Pours amber in color with a thick, white head, high carbonation and a slight haze to it. Aroma is slightly sweet, cinnamon, orange and spicy. Flavor starts off with some alcohol and moves into a coriander flavor, followed by a hint of lemon citrus, cinnamon and sweet maltiness, creating a modest flavored beer. A carry over flavor after the beer is gone that reminds of sweet white grapes.Alcohol is pretty dominant in this and adds an almost has a vodka feel and taste. Overall, the alcohol flavor is a bit too dominant and overshadows some of the other flavors that are trying to come out in this beer.

Strykzone (5061) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2009
A cool looking beer that is opaque amber orange and has some glow in the dark quality. A nice thick light gold head has decent retention. The aroma is nice and fruity with some wheat and sugar. Flavor is also fruit dominated with a complex mix. Just a bit of spice and just a bit of wheat flavor. Throw in a good sized cup of sugar. Alcohol is evident and even the beer was served refrigerator cold it tasted warm due to the alcohol. This doesn’t seem like a wit at all but is a very good beer. Tasty, aromatic, nice looking, and smooth drinking. Is an imperial pale lager next?

12 oz bottle: Aroma is coriander, bubble gum, and orange. Pours a cloudy amber color with a white head that disappears rapidly. Taste is really spicy almost like a Christmas brew spice wise with a almost artificial banana note on the back end. Bubble gum and orange are mixed in there as well. Palate has an upfront harshness when you put in your mouth. You can really notice the alcohol in the taste as well. It bites that back of your throat. Overall, Hey I’m glad that good old sammy is doing this. It just needs a little tweeking. Cheers!

Ambitious offering from Sam Adams, which is good. Big orange taste primary flavor, with lots of alcohol afterburn. If you like a screwdriver, this is the brew for you. Some banana. A little too sweet for my liking. Subpar carbonation as well.

Doughy, mandarin orange, slight coriander, light buttery aroma -- this gets much better as it warms. Didn’t like this Sam label, foggy oak stain coloring, thin, clingy head. Front-end punch of alcohol and spice which fades into pepper, followed by tart sweetness. Peppery vapor in the high palate on the finish. Lingering boozy-wood and lightly floral aftertaste. Alcohol isn’t masked very well, didn’t have as much character as I’d hoped. Market Square Liquors.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2013 Pours a copper/orange color, cloudy, nice creamy white head a little lacing and the head is mostly diminishing. The aroma has hops, yeast and the Belgium bubble gum kinda smell, just light though. The flavor is a witbier, creamy a little syruppy a little fizzy carbonation. Not bad see how it ages. Wow almost four years later, still copper/orange probably darker, fully diminishing head. The aroma is some Belgium yeast. the flavor has some smokiness to it, full body, creamy and soft carbonation. I would change it from a 3.5 by dropping Aroma to 6, upping Appearance to 4, Taste to 7 and overall to 17 which brings it up to3.7.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 12 oz bottle. Dark orange, murky pour with a slight off-white head that sticks around the edge of the glass for a while. Strong aroma of alcohol, molasses and some caramel. Flavor is more akin to a maibock than a witbier in my opinion. Some molasses, a hint of caramel, some white grapes, and some apricots - kind of unusual. Detectable alcohol level, thickish mouthfeel.
