COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sam Adams Imperial White pushes the boundaries of a witbier. While the brew delivers orange and coriander notes typical of a witbier, it has a bigger mouthfeel and body. It is truly a unique brew.

Poured a hazy, medium coppery hue, formed small foamy head. Aroma of banana, cloves and malts. Flavour was rather smooth, wheats, malts, brown candy sugars and corriander, with a tad bit of spicy alcohol. Mouthfeel is both sticky and thick as vanilla finishes up on the palate. Impressive beer from now commercial brewery.

Cloudy amber, thin off-white head. Pleasant, complex flavor. Definitely Boston Beer’s best yet.

12 oz Bottle. This series of beers piqued my interested when I heard about it awhile back. It’s a good move on the part of Sam Adams to expand this market. There are not too many year-round "imperial" beers with such a wide distribution. The beer pours with a smotth, white head that fades to a persistent thin ring. Aroma includes wheat, orange, coriander, spice, and hints of alcohol. Flavor is similar with some honey and vanilla mixed in. Finishes with moderate to strong astringency. Mouthfeel is rather thick for a white. I think this is a strong effort on the part of SA.

Pours deep orange with plenty of white head. Aroma is banana, pear, apple and malty sweetness. Really wonderful. Flavor, however, is lacking. Nothing really comes through. Some fruitiness. Thick mouthfeel. Finish is hot with alcohol and ruins a good thing.

Bottle, from Garrett. Color is apricot-orange with a wispy gray-white head. Pours hazy. Orange peel, clove, and additional spices dominant the aroma. Mouthfeel is full, amazingly thick for a witbier, with finishing carbonation. Flavors are sweet, with wheat, spices, and a fairly prominent fruity flavor. Garrett commented that the fruitiness of the palate is the same as the nose. Finish is buttery, with some residual sweetness, peach, and ripe apricot. Overall, the smooth palate, balanced flavors, and well-blended alcohol make this a (surprisingly) quality offering.

Pours a hazy golden color with a tan, foamy, one inch thick head. Aroma of vanillia and citrus. Taste of spice, clove, vanillia, grassy. Strong presents of alcohol. This is different. Sam Adams and Boston Beer Company always willing to try something differnt!

Pours hazy yellow/amber with a medium sized head of small bubbles. Aroma is sweet with hints of citrus white wine and alcohol. Mouth feel is thick and sticky. Flavor is very sweet with strong alcohol and vanilla in the foreground with a bit of citrus in the background. I think they missed the mark calling this a witbier as it has none of the traditional characteristics of the style. As a barleywine or belgian string ale, this is pretty good, but it’s not a witte, imperial or otherwise.

Thanks for the sloppy seconds Butters. Also, thanks to sixfootsix for hooking us up. 12oz bottle. Pours an off-white lacing head with a deep golden body. Smells of muscat and clove. Tastes of bubblegum, orange zest and honey. Reminiscient of a guwertztraminer or sherry. Big body with nutmeg, clove, and sweetness on the finish. I like for a witbier.

Finally, I get to be the rating-cherry popper! Many thanks to sixfootsix for hooking it up. Pours a hazy amber with fair off-white head. Nose of white grapes and spicy vanilla with some alcohol on the tail. Flavors of orange peel are hidden by vanilla, oak, and alcohol with some typical belgian yeast flavors. Medium syrupy body with low carbonation. Doesn’t really make me think of a witbier (more like what Terrapin and New Holland are calling a "wheat wine"), but a damn pleasant surprise from sam adams.
