2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small sudsy head. Nose is sweet, alcohol, mild spice, citrus. Flavor is overly sweet, vanilla, more alcohol, and citrus. Thin mouthfeel with a fusel alcohol finish. Not good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle - 12 oz) Nice orange color with a fizzy and thick white head. Aroma is nice and balanced. Good amounts of cloves, spice, malt, and banana make their way through. Taste is incredibly spicy and sweet. Lots of pepper and clove mix with a good amount of wheat and banana flavor near the middle. Alcohol is very present but finishes clean, tart, and warming. Sweetness lingers a bit but gives way to the dry wheat flavor. Pretty nice. Surprising that this is the highest ABV of the Imperial Series.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2009 What the hell is with this beer? A sweet mess. Pours an apricot/light brown color wtih a white head. Aroma is full of banana, spices, malt, honey, sugar and oranges. The flavor is pretty insane on the sweetness. I was not impressed. Lots of sugar, honey, syrup, dried fruit. I need to try this again in a regular beer setting instead of a crazy beer fest. Interesting but way too sweet.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a hazy, medium coppery hue, formed small foamy head. Aroma of banana, cloves and malts. Flavour was rather smooth, wheats, malts, brown candy sugars and corriander, with a tad bit of spicy alcohol. Mouthfeel is both sticky and thick as vanilla finishes up on the palate. Impressive beer from now commercial brewery.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz Bottle. This series of beers piqued my interested when I heard about it awhile back. It’s a good move on the part of Sam Adams to expand this market. There are not too many year-round "imperial" beers with such a wide distribution. The beer pours with a smotth, white head that fades to a persistent thin ring. Aroma includes wheat, orange, coriander, spice, and hints of alcohol. Flavor is similar with some honey and vanilla mixed in. Finishes with moderate to strong astringency. Mouthfeel is rather thick for a white. I think this is a strong effort on the part of SA.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours deep orange with plenty of white head. Aroma is banana, pear, apple and malty sweetness. Really wonderful. Flavor, however, is lacking. Nothing really comes through. Some fruitiness. Thick mouthfeel.
Finish is hot with alcohol and ruins a good thing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, from Garrett. Color is apricot-orange with a wispy gray-white head. Pours hazy. Orange peel, clove, and additional spices dominant the aroma. Mouthfeel is full, amazingly thick for a witbier, with finishing carbonation. Flavors are sweet, with wheat, spices, and a fairly prominent fruity flavor. Garrett commented that the fruitiness of the palate is the same as the nose. Finish is buttery, with some residual sweetness, peach, and ripe apricot. Overall, the smooth palate, balanced flavors, and well-blended alcohol make this a (surprisingly) quality offering.
