COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sam Adams Imperial White pushes the boundaries of a witbier. While the brew delivers orange and coriander notes typical of a witbier, it has a bigger mouthfeel and body. It is truly a unique brew.

Cloudy amber, thin off-white head. Pleasant, complex flavor. Definitely Boston Beer’s best yet.

Pours from the 12 oz bottle an orangish-amber with a thick foamy head that settles into a heavy collar. There’s an almost macro like fizziness...LOTSA bubbles rising to the top. Aroma is wonderful, a mixture of fruit (orange & banana) and a caramel/toffee note. The flavor is big, bold and wonderful as well. I pick up hints of the aforementioned fruit plus the caramel/toffee, plus a bubblegum like sweetness. The alcohol is present and gets more noticeable as the beer warms, but doesn’t take away from the experience. The mouthfeel is quite substansial...this is a thick, almost chewy beer. Overall, a big, bold, BEAUTIFUL beer from Jim Koch & the crew at Boston Beer Company!! This is top notch stuff, and I hope there’s more on the shelves when I make my next beer run!!!

Aromas of spices and rum rasin. Clear copper color. It has a sugary toffee flavor that’s a bit too intense. This is NOT a white ale for people who enjoy white ales! The mouthfeel is oily and full-bodied. The alcohol is too high for a white ale, by double or more. It’s just too much of everything.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2011 Not sure how old this bottle is, bought it off a breakage shelf. That said, this was awful and a unfortunately a drain pour. Pours an orange bordering on amber (where’s the white ale?) A small white foam quickly dissipates. Smells sweet with some spice in the background. Flavor-wise I get a lot of sweet caramel up front, and maybe a little spice. A big syrupy sweet mess. Low carbonation makes this a chore to get through. Overall this is a definite avoid beer. I am hoping it was just an old bottle.

massive rich creamy head on top of an orange/amber translucent brew. nose has that wheat tang, with orange and coriander notes. body is nice and thick for a wheat beer. creamy with a decent balance of wheat, orange and coriander, and hops, finished with a slight alcohol burn down the back of the throat. strong aftertaste. decent brew, and the highest alc % Imp Wit i’ve seen out there.

Pours a murky amber with a 1/4" highly carbonated white head that dissipates in a few seconds. Aroma is sweet malts, with some orange and spice. Quite a bit of alcohol. The taste is sweet malty caramel with lots of coriander and some bready notes. The finish has a lingering bitter orange antiseptic booziness. My mouth actually feels a bit numb. For the amount of carbonation in the pour, the mouthfeel is a flat. Pretty heavy and syrupy sweet that makes my lips sticky. The prevalence of alcohol definitely makes this one a sipper and would be much more enjoyable on a cool fall/winter night as opposed to a hot summer night. Special thanks to the Durke’s for sharing this with me.

A hazy brown with a thin white head. Very heavy, sweet malt aroma with a floral note. Flavor is full on sweet. Almost overpoweringly so. Fruity with a slight heather ale taste. Clean and crisp but a little too heavy to be refreshing.
