4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/25/2012. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, light smoke, light chocolate, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, light smoke, herbal, and toasted/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, chocolate, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Scotch ale style! All around great balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Starts off with the classic Sam Adams two-finger head with some staying power. Leaves streaky lace on the glass. The color is deep ruby brown and appears to be clear.
Mild smell of chocolate ice cream. None of the typical elements of a Wee Heavy is present. Some cocoa, that’s it.
The flavor is much improved. Good chocolate notes with a heavy alcohol influence. There’s some bitterness that is likely from hop rather than black patent malt as there is no coffee flavors. The alcohol is very present, perhaps on the high side. Rich bodied but not quite syrupy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a nearly opaque ruby-cola color with a dark tan-taupe head. Nice looking beer. Chocolate syrup, whiskey, and banana on the nose. Moderately thick, somewhat creamy mouthfeel with some fine, slightly burning scrubbing. Caramel, freezer burned ice cream, zinc, and whiskey flavors.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma is Malts - caramel, slight coffee and roasty. Pours dark brown with frothy head, mostly diminishing. The taste is bitter. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish bitter and long. Very Good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - small foamy head, black color, sweet roasty malt aroma and flavor, mild peat-like notes I guess, not my usually cup of tea but not bad for what it is

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
One of the better examples of the wee heavy that I’ve had. A little acidic, but overall, a nicely balanced ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
February 3rd, 2012 - The Wee Heavy from Boston Beer Company rolls out the Scottish experience with tenacious legs and a huge, filmy head. The nose is greeted by an unctuousness, creamy aroma, replete with peat and brown sugar, and even a smoothness like the smell of fresh rubber. The flavor adds to this globs of heavy caramel and malts, and accents the flavor with a heavy dose of booze. This is, indeed, a Wee Heavy, and while it’s not an exceptional example of the style, it’s solid drinking.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a dark brown, slightly cola color with a medium sized, light tan head. Aroma was notes of toffee, malts, caramel. Notes of sweetness permeate the air surrounding the glass. Flavor has notes of dried fruits, toffee, caramel malts. Sweet, touch boozy, but warming and not overtly harsh.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
FROM NOTES: June 30, ’12
A: Big caramel malt sweetness with some smoke and dark fruits.
A: Pours a clear deep reddish brown with a finger-width tan head. Head has good retention with no lacing.
T: Follows the nose, very sweet up front, mostly caramel malt with some smoke and dark fruit in the middle. Starts to dry out on the finish, with a nice earthy spiciness.
P: Mouthfeel is thick and unpleasantly syrupy.
O: I like a good Wee Heavy and this one is just a little to syrupy for me. The style should have a thick malt feel, but not like cough syrup

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured from a bottle it is a muddy brown with a slight tan head that fades quickly. The aroma is of chocolate and sole like aroma found in barbecue cue. The taste is definitely chocolate with overtones of smokey licorice flavors that linger on the palate
