3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A nearby Jewel store was remodeling the liquor department, and apparently you can’t take stock back to the back once it’s been on the shelves, so they were clearing 4-pack of the Sam Imperials (+90 Min IPA, Goose Vintage, etc.) for $3. So I can finally forget about cellaring a bit. Use a probably inappropriate Sam Lager glass, but the continuous bubbling keeps up a nice tan head over a muddy brown body. smell is caramel malt with notes of Christmas figs. Taste: Ah, there’s that "wee heaviness" I’ve been expecting. The peat smoked malt is right up front, almost to slap down any pale thing Bamburg can muster. No bacon, but the taste gets too close to a plastic Band-Aid at times. Perhaps I should have expected that. Keeping fizzy to the end helps mitigate the intense phenols.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
"imperial series beer - THE most smokey beer of 8 in the style tonight. full feel, almost sticky, sweet...almost overly so...not quite, but quite pleasant overall. the peat and smokiness won me over a little. dark and thick."

Not too syrupy, not as much as the imperial stout. Probably the best of the imperial series.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 1-5-13-
Poured from bottle into a snifter glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown color with highlights of a ruby red shinning through when held up to the light. Upon pouring there is only a fine film on the top of the brew. This fades fast with little lacing. Upon swirling the beer in the glass its thickness can be seen with the brew clinging to the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big and sweet. It consists of a load of caramel and toffee with some sweet smells of a dark fruit nature (mainly cherry and plum). Mixed with these aromas are a light chocolate smell and a decent presence of a scotch aroma.
Taste – The taste is not nearly as sweet then you would expect from the nose. The flavor begins with a big malty and bready taste mixed with a lighter caramel sweetness. Other sweet flavors of a buttery toffee and some cocoa come to the tongue more toward the middle of the flavor. Along with the toffee and cocoa also comes the forefront of the alcohol taste. It begins rather mild and of a more rum like nature. As the taste advances toward the end however the boozy taste gets quite a bit stronger and take on a more whisky like flavor with smoky notes and some woody flavors coming to the tongue. The taste is rather dry and boozy at the end, leaving a very warming and smoky and roasty malt flavor to linger in the mouth.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the thicker side, but for a 10% abv wee heavy it may be a little light to average with a carbonation level that is quite light. Quite appropriate for the style and fitting for the whisky and malty flavors of the brew.
Overall – A nice smoky brew that is good to sit back with and sip slowly while being warmed by all the boozy and roasty flavors.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, thanks sevenhokie! Caramel and roasted malt aroma with just a hint of peaty smoke. Pours dark coke colored tinged with a bit of ruby. Started off with one finger of light brown head that mostly dissipated, but thin layer is still hanging around and good lacing. Starts with sweet caramel and roasted malts to start. Finishes smooth with a strong peaty smoke that sticks on the palate for quite a while. Solid wee heavy, but I thought it a little too smoky for my tastes.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rated on 4-17-2011 (Bottle) The appearance is a medium sized semi-fizzy tan head that mostly diminishes, reddish brown transparent body, very little carbonation observed, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, lightly smokey and lightly fruity. The taste is dark fruits, caramel malt, lightly smokey, and some alcohol. The mouthfeel is lightly tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer is easy to drink at 10%ABV and a sipping beer. It has a very good flavor, worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/25/2012. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, light smoke, light chocolate, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, light smoke, herbal, and toasted/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, chocolate, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Scotch ale style! All around great balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Starts off with the classic Sam Adams two-finger head with some staying power. Leaves streaky lace on the glass. The color is deep ruby brown and appears to be clear.
Mild smell of chocolate ice cream. None of the typical elements of a Wee Heavy is present. Some cocoa, that’s it.
The flavor is much improved. Good chocolate notes with a heavy alcohol influence. There’s some bitterness that is likely from hop rather than black patent malt as there is no coffee flavors. The alcohol is very present, perhaps on the high side. Rich bodied but not quite syrupy.
