This rich and malty ale originated in Ireland in 1710. It has a deep red color and distinctive caramel flavor from its Pale and Caramel malts. The malt sweetness is balanced by the earthy notes of East Kent Goldings hops. Cheers!

Pours a lovely deep copper with a beige head. The smell is fantastic with a rich array of roasted malt, caramel and a hint of coffee. The taste was good but not as exciting as the smell led me to expect. While the malt and caramel is there, it falls a little flat. The finish a it thin and dry. Still quite nice overall.

Its body is dark reddish copper in color and it has nice clarity. The head is average size, light tan in color and fades down to thin covering. The aroma is sweet and malty with hints of caramel and toffee. The favor is much the same as the aroma with a malty character and light mild hops in the background. Its finish is smooth and clean with a medium body and a smooth creamy texture. This is a very easy drinking beer with simple pleasing flavor.

Bottle. A: Beautiful red bordering on purple. Thin white head dissipating.N: Toffee, biscuit, grain, pine, pineapple, oranges. Bubblegum, coriander, banana. T: Very sweet bordering on barleywine territory. M: Puffy, light mouthfeel.O: Seems like a cross between hefeweien and a soft barleywine. Fine for what it is, glad it didn?t cost me anything.

Pours a clear darker reddish color with off-white head. Caramel malt, some pine, and a little toast on the nose; follows onto the palate. Quite balanced for an Irish Red.

Transfer from BA reviewed 1-20-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance - A brownish red color which upon pouring forms an off white/tan head. The head is thick with tiny bubbles, but fades fast leaving a nice film on the brew. Smell - The smell is relatively subdued. Malt is the most I pick up with a bit of caramel and toffee mixed in. Taste - Malty up front with some biscuity flavor. Some sweetness of toffee and caramel come into the mix with an ever so faint hint of nuttiness with a bit of hoppy bitterness coming in toward the end. Mouthfeel - A good level of carbonation with a fairly moderate body. It is very fitting for the style and makes it an easy drink. Overall - A slightly better then average brew, but when given the choice of others (like the others in this Sam Adams brewer’s choice collection) would choose others (like original Sam or whitewater IPA).

"great sweet malty backbone...not as dry as the style calls for, but i liked it way more than i thought i would. flavor and aroma better than expected, it just doesn’t fit the style too well."

Bottle: Poured a caramel orange red with a off white to tan colored head. Aroma was caramel malts. Taste was similar with caramel malts, grain and a light leafy hops.

Appearance is ruby red in color that support a thin dissipating head leaving nil head. Smell has a light aroma of malt and hop with an off scent in the back. Taste of a little astringency associated with the specialty malt and hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.

Not a huge fan of Reds(Irish or otherwise), but this isn't bad. Nice sweet nose of roasted malts and a great smooth taste with a sweet finish. Wouldn't/couldn't drink consistently, but I'd drink again if wanting this style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
