COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich and malty ale originated in Ireland in 1710. It has a deep red color and distinctive caramel flavor from its Pale and Caramel malts. The malt sweetness is balanced by the earthy notes of East Kent Goldings hops. Cheers!

Reviewed 2/16/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a clear reddish copper color. The head is a one finger light cream shade with an excellent creamy texture. Retention isnít great, but the lacing left on the glass is good. S: The only thing I really notice aroma-wise are sweet caramel malts and earthy hops. Maybe a touch of diacetyl comes through, Iím not really sure. Whatever it is, itís not very impressive. T: Just like I said in the aroma, itís caramel malts and some earthy hops to finish it. Thereís a faint touch of fruity esters and some hazelnut in the midtaste, but this is very simple otherwise. This does a good job of dictating exactly what the aroma suggested - by being quite mediocre. M: This comes off rather sweet and syrupy; given its clean texture, it feels rather strange on the palate. If any beer needs a drier finish, this is it. Not particularly drinkable for that reason. O: Canít say Iím a huge fan of this one. Itís hard to really place what I donít like about this, but it ultimately doesnít come together nearly as much as it should.

Pours a dark amber reddish color with a medium white head. The aroma is caramel, hops, and some fruit. The taste is similar but I am not a fan of this beer.

Poured into a perfect pint. 3.25 A: Clear orange amber color. One and a half fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is a touch below average and a short ring of lacing is left. 2.75 S: Buttery with light caramel and some toastiness. Not much else going on. Super boring nose. 3.0 T: Taste is also underwhelming. Light caramel, toastiness, some buttery notes. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Light creaminess. 3.0 D: This is about as average as it gets. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing right either. Boring beer. DavoleBomb, Jun 05, 2013

Best by date of 05.2014. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler on 02.08.14. A: Deep red. Very see through. S: Caramel. Very malty is it should be. T: Follows the nose but with a touch of slight bitterness. M: Crisp. Very bubbly. O: This was a caramel bomb. The bitterness was barely noticeable, and nicely balanced the malt. This was interesting to try against the ambers that Iíve had. It was an ok beer.

Its body is dark reddish copper in color and it has nice clarity. The head is average size, light tan in color and fades down to thin covering. The aroma is sweet and malty with hints of caramel and toffee. The favor is much the same as the aroma with a malty character and light mild hops in the background. Its finish is smooth and clean with a medium body and a smooth creamy texture. This is a very easy drinking beer with simple pleasing flavor.
