COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For this special release, we wanted to brew a flavorful winter IPA that captured the aroma of the season. This brought us to juniper berries, which add a slightly sweet, piney character. Complemented by citrus notes from American hops, this balanced IPA will brighten the holidays. Cheers!

Wasn't a huge fan, I think 2013 was a bad year for beer though and it has been hard to impress me this year. Overall, very drinkable.

Decent IPA from Sam Adams. Light amber body with average beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is orange/citrus and pine. Taste is mildly bitter hops and slight malt taste on the palate. Better than expected.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2013 Nose is heavy juniper with a pleasant and strong malt base, all kinds of fresh citrussy accents flitting about, really makes a strong impression as a gin with a drop of caramel. Light pine on the margin. Pours clear orange with plenty of carbonation and a soapy but lacing off-white head. Taste light-medium bitter with light cracker, subtle pine and caramel, some resin and really nice earthy hops. Very dry, the juniper seems to be restricted to the aroma, and this is much more about the woody, resinous components. Medium body with slight malt depth, but nicely chewy. Finishes dulled, which is disappointing, but the those first few moments were exciting.

Clear gold-orange pour with a 1 finger, creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet citrus and pine, light floral notes, biscuit, woody planty notes and a little cereal. Flavor is sweet caramel and cereal up front, light grapey fruity notes, nice mellow, but quite forward pine notes and a decent minerality to the finish. Light to medium body, neutral, but slightly creamy and a little juicy entry, medium to heavy, blanketing and slightly sharp carbonation, dry, slightly chalky finish. Really good overall, I like that the pine notes are strong, but never bracing.

very aromatic and floral. deep golden in appearance. taste is mild for an ipa which i like not a hop bomb. sweet in a fruit and citrus way. pleasant and refreshing as well as balanced an excellent special.

Notes of rum, roast, pine, grapefruit, and nuts. Ambiance of rust and fall leaves. Smells like roasted copper. Donít judge this by the berries on the cover, it isnít sugary sweet fruit beer. I like it. Solid fall beer. I donít know if it fits or stacks up well as an IPA, maybe just barely qualifies for the word, but a good entry in the Fall Beer genre. Wait, is this from the winter mix pack? Oh well, its out in early November, its a Fall Beer of sorts. Maybe next year to the fall mix pack? The winter/holiday hook here is probably the rum flavor.

Pour is a clear amber with a large white head. Aroma is a nice pine hop with a bit of mint in there. Flavor is a bit of dull malts with almost no hops presence. Some sweet fruitiness is left on the tongue. Ok but nothing great. Hops do not shine and I really donít know what juniper tastes like but I guess its in there.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Firestone pint glass From: VONS in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $14.99 for a winter variety 12-pack Purchased: Nov. 1, 2013 Consumed: Nov. 1, 2013 Misc.: Enjoy by March 2014 Poured a honey caramel clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of khaki white head. Lots of uneven foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Fantastic retention on the top all the way down. Smelled a mix between blackberries and blueberries, which I assume are juniper berries. Also grape, soapy notes, caramel, faint pine, light floral hops, citrus hops, wet Cascade hops and a musky finish. Light-to-medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Very bitter finish. Not that big a fan of this beer. I will most likely not have another one after this. Well after the other one in this variety 12-pack.
