3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle at home from notes. Pours a slightly hazy deep orange amber color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor had caramel malt, biscuits, heavier on the earthy and grassy, some light fruity character, lighter bodied, mild bitterness, this one lacks the character some of the others have.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home in CT. Pours clear copper-gold with a big, frothy white head. The nose holds notes of melon, strawberry, mango, bubblegum and citrus. Medium sweet flavor with pale bread sugars, faint dough, gummy berries, tangerine, further melon. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderately sweet to finish with slight leafy bitterness, some minerals, more melon and berries, biscuity pale malts, tangerine. Not bad.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours orange with white head. Aroma is earthy, herbal, and lightly fruity. Taste is more similar to a less malty ESB than it is to what we imagine an IPA to be in this day and age. I am not sure how it really works out at the end, but I feel that more creativity with English hops is in order.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle dated best by Sept. 2011 from Sept. 2011 notes.
Appearance: a beautiful clear orange-amber in color with a good head that lasted a long time. Light carbonation visible. Good amount of lacing on the glass.
Smell: More earthy than the standard Latitude IPA as well as at least some of the other deconstructed versions. Some floral and fruit notes and ample malt aromas.
Taste: good flavor without flaws excepting the light hop/heavy malt balance and the less appealing (but still definitely appealing) hop flavor component (earthy and herbal).
Mouthfeel: medium bodied and smooth; soft for style yet with some crispness; slightly dry finish.
Overall: As a fan of standard Latitude 48 I was surprised to like most of the single-hop versions nearly as much. That said, this is not my favorite of these. Like the others, it lacks some of the complexity of the ’regular’ version, but this one also lacks the hop-forward character and aroma. Hop-wise, it is more of an APA than IPA.
But getting past comparison to standard Latitude 48 and expectations for an IPA, this is a very enjoyable brew that grew better with repeated tasting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Light grass/hay and toffee malt aroma. Golden yellow with nice fluffy head. Sweet barley malt and moderately bitter earthy grass flavor. Well, I can see why most brewers don’t use this hop type for an IPA - this is more in line with a Bitter. Still I like it.
