COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the “hop belt” of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe®*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Pours a burnt orangey-amber with a decent white head, great lacing. Very clear. Aroma is not very hoppy. Some citrus but also biscuity malt. Not impressive for an IPA. The taste is better though, with more earthy malt and the hop coming through. I tasted this next to a more standard American IPA with big hop character and was underwhelmed, but perhaps I need to give it the benefit of the doubt. It’s not a hop bomb but it’s not trying to be. Overall decent drinking beer but don’t expect massive American IPA characteristics.

Pours a crystal clear copper amber with two fingers of persistent fluffy head and moderate sticky lacing. Nose is grapefruit and floral hops, caramel malt. Taste leads out with caramel malt giving way to piney hops. Body is medium, with sustained carbonation and a bitter dry finish. Surprisingly decent IPA for a pseudo-craft label like Sam Adams. The finish is a little on the harsh side, with a little saccharine sweetness, but fairly serviceable should you find yourself facing limited options.

Transfer from BA review from 6-16-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a nice amber color with a massive red tinged head. The head has fantastic retention and last a very long time, but does eventually fade leaving wonderful lacing. Smell – A sweet aroma of tangerine and some malt meet the nose. These are mixed with aromas of grapefruit hop as well as floral and pine hop notes. Taste – The taste begins of a lighted roast malt flavor with a good bready base. It starts dry with a light pine hop flavor. The pine increases more toward the middle of the taste with some light notes of citrus hop coming to the tongue. At the end the citrus and pine loose strength as more earthy and grassy flavors come to the tongue taking the taste to its end. Mouthfeel – The body is just above average with the carbonation level being average. The medium body and higher carbonation are quite fitting for the medium level of hopiness and drier flavors of this IPA. Overall - A good drinking drier IPA. More subtle in the hop flavors then many IPA, but is has a nice grassy and earthy hop flavor in the end.

Draft at Moriartys. Clear orange amber pour with a slight off-white foamy top. Very pleasant and inviting aroma. Nice blend of hops with a blonde malt back. Ripe pineapple. Wildflower honey. Tangerines. Barley sugar clear toys. Kiwi fruit. Buttered biscuits. Vegtable tempora. Interesting soft feel for an IPA yet still feels substantial. Very surprised by this. One of best Sam Adams brews I have had.

Clear medium amber pour with a nice dark ruby cast. Massive head with excellent retention. Very nice nose of both tropical, which is the primary, and pine hops over a caramel sweetness. Medium bodied with a slick, almost creamy, mouthfeel. Average carbonation level with a touch of effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is quite nice, balanced, complex and hop forward. It begins with a rather unique blend of hop flavor - typical American citrus over the EKGs. Sort of an IPA and ESB cross. This flows into a mild bitterness which is grapefruit and EKG in nature. On the finish, tropical hop flavor takes the forefront over a slight sweetness. As it fades, orange is noted.
