COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adamsģ Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the ďhop beltĒ of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoeģ*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Reviewed 2/18/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a dark copper color with good clarity. The head is a nice-looking two finger offwhite shade. While it fades rather quickly, it does leave nice splotches of lacing down the side of the glass. S: Fairly typical for a middle-of-the-road IPA. Caramel malts counteract the earthy hops. This one seems to be pretty pine forward - normally not my cup of tea - in its aroma. Iím a bit disappointed that the German hops used arenít more prevalent here. T: Put simply, itís mellow and inoffensive to a fault. Slight caramel malts to start give way to a slightly piny/earthy finish with a slight grassy linger. Thereís absolutely nothing wrong with this one, just thatís itís devoid of bold flavor or interesting characteristics. M: The somewhat thick, creamy body and weak carbonation overwhelms the lack of strong taste provided on the palate. Nonetheless, itís quite easy to drink on the grounds of íthere just isnít much to ití. O: This is an IPA with training wheels. It wonít offend any senses...but neither will it impress them. Hard to return to this one when there are so many excellent IPAs on the shelves.

Pours clear and burnt orange to red with a finely bubbled tan head that gradually fades to a small rim. Aroma is caramel malt and citrus. Taste is immediately astringent and a strong contrast to the aroma. Slightly bitter and hoppy. Pine and grapefruit, but also nobles. Jammy flavors mingle with the hops as this beer warms and opens up. Quite good.

355ml bottle from the LCBO. Gold/ amber body with frothy off-white head. Pine aromas are ever-present, the aroma has fresh cut grass notes and is very reminiscent on a cascade hop pellet. Some very subtle caramel notes as well with a fairly abrupt finish for the style.

"label best by march 2011, sampled 2/5/11. didnít taste like the hops were fresh, but it was a month b4 best by date, so maybe itís just mellow and not incredibly aromtic. bicuity malt heavy, ever so slightly, with some nice bittering hops. pleasant enough but nothing stood out. profile more like a pale or english ipa, though iíd try again if i saw it fresh. 2md time was 3 months before date...still not a favorite. maybe a tenth better as it was a little fresher, but pretty tame and on the boring side for an ipa."

Orange with a thin, white disappearing head. Nice smell of melon, grapes and soft hops. Caramel. Nice taste of fruity hops with a dry caramel finish. Decent IPA.

On top of a rich amber brew sits a thick clingy head. This head is a creamy off white colored foam that lasts all the way to the bottom of the glass and makes cool lace rings and patterns along the way. Mostly I get citrusy hop notes with lighter pine notes and some mellow sweet and lightly toasted maltiness. Just like the nose suggested I get plenty citrus and spicy hop notes with mild pine backing it up. This is all set up on a nice malt base with some light caramel malt and bready sweetness. The palate is smooth medium bodied with average balanced carbonation.
