COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the “hop belt” of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe®*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Reviewed 2/18/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a dark copper color with good clarity. The head is a nice-looking two finger offwhite shade. While it fades rather quickly, it does leave nice splotches of lacing down the side of the glass. S: Fairly typical for a middle-of-the-road IPA. Caramel malts counteract the earthy hops. This one seems to be pretty pine forward - normally not my cup of tea - in its aroma. I’m a bit disappointed that the German hops used aren’t more prevalent here. T: Put simply, it’s mellow and inoffensive to a fault. Slight caramel malts to start give way to a slightly piny/earthy finish with a slight grassy linger. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this one, just that’s it’s devoid of bold flavor or interesting characteristics. M: The somewhat thick, creamy body and weak carbonation overwhelms the lack of strong taste provided on the palate. Nonetheless, it’s quite easy to drink on the grounds of ’there just isn’t much to it’. O: This is an IPA with training wheels. It won’t offend any senses...but neither will it impress them. Hard to return to this one when there are so many excellent IPAs on the shelves.

The label says it doesn't overpower you with hops. But it tastes like somebody accidentally spilled the entire barrel of hops in the vat and called it an IPA. In fairness, it's not awful. Just very hoppy ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from bottle, amber with medium creamy head. Aroma is kind of sweet with notes of fruit and syrup and pine. Taste is bitter but well balanced with a slightly sweet malt body, notes of caramel, dried fruit and resin. Light bitter finish.

This felt more like a summer IPA. Airy, light, lighter fruits with a good hop nose and finish.

35.5cl bottle from Systembolaget. Best before 2014-06-01. It poured a copper colour with a medium big white head. Although it was well after the best before date the aroma is still massive hops, malts, pine and some dark caramel or toffee. Aroma is bitter. Lots of resin and pine. More malty than hoppy by now, but hops are noticable after a little while. Lingering aftertaste with notes of citrus and hops. Wish I had tried it when it was fresh.

12oz bottle - Part of the Harvest/Fall pack of 2012. An above average, if not fantastic IPA no matter how you slice it. Wonderful aroma, solid hop profile with a minimalistic approach to the malts, which I loved. The 2 bottles I had went pretty quick. This could stand up pretty well to some of the great IPA’s out there.

Aroma is slightly hoppy, with caramel and malts taking the upperhand. The taste follows the pattern, and the winner in this race is the malts. It has some hops in there, but they are really weak in this one.
