Samuel Adams® Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the “hop belt” of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe®*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Well, I hate to be hard on ole Sam, because at least Sam brings decent beers to the masses, but the description of this beer says it all: ..a distinctive but not overpowering hop character." As in "hops for the masses." Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I guess. If this beer can be a gateway drug to a true IPA, then all is for the best. I would take this beer over a regular Sam Adams LAger at an Airport bar, so this is a step in the right direction. But on my list of favorite IPA’s this is pretty low on the list.

Bottle at home. Pours a clear yellow. Aroma is citrus with some grapefruit. Some pine also. Flavor follows. Very nice and drinkable IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orange with a thin, white disappearing head. Nice smell of melon, grapes and soft hops. Caramel. Nice taste of fruity hops with a dry caramel finish. Decent IPA.

On top of a rich amber brew sits a thick clingy head. This head is a creamy off white colored foam that lasts all the way to the bottom of the glass and makes cool lace rings and patterns along the way. Mostly I get citrusy hop notes with lighter pine notes and some mellow sweet and lightly toasted maltiness. Just like the nose suggested I get plenty citrus and spicy hop notes with mild pine backing it up. This is all set up on a nice malt base with some light caramel malt and bready sweetness. The palate is smooth medium bodied with average balanced carbonation.

Bottle. Clear caramel color, small offwhite head. Not much Nose, a little fruit. Crisp taste, malty finish with a hint of hops. Medium body, average carbonation.

clear copper pour, a finger of head. Grassy, mild pine and grapefruit, sweet malt a little more prominent than I would like in an IPA. Decent enough for what it is.

Bien goûteuse au départ mais ça s’estompe un peu trop vite. C’est bien malté, résineux mais un peu léger en saveur...

Pours a coppery hue with foamy white head. Aromas are a touch lighter than expected, but consist of floral hops, a hint of citrus grapefruit. Tastes are fairly balanced with a bit more malt than the hops which are producing a lemon/lime flavour with only the merest hint of pine. Overall, definitely a bit too mild of an IPA for my palate which has welcomed many a hop bomb.

Light in flavor and the finish is not so good. Obviously drinkable but not very good for being an IPA.

Samuel Adams Fantastic Four (4-pack from Systembolaget 83 SEK). Hoppy aroma with a mix of american and european hops. Amber color with white head. Bitterness is higher than expected, Some caramel malts. Good!
