COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Latitude 48 IPA is a unique IPA brewed with a select blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the “hop belt” of the Northern Hemisphere. The combination of hops in this beer creates a distinctive but not overpowering hop character. The beer is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe®*, and East Kent Goldings hops for a powerful citrus and earthy aroma. The hop character is balanced by a slight sweetness and full body from the malt blend.

Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in an English pint glass. The beer pours a medium amber color, with a moderate just off-white head. The nose shows English crystal malt and earthy/herbal hop notes. German and English varietals of the latter seem to come through far more perceptibly than any U.S. species. Pleasing, but seemingly lacking some oomph for the style. The palate shows a mild but noticeable malt sweetness up front, followed by a quite strong note of fresh hop flavor in the mid-palate to finish. The latter is a note unlike any I’ve experienced in an IPA, and is quite nice; akin to the aromas volatized from the addition of hops to the brew kettle. Again, the flavors are pleasing, but lack the bitterness and hop punch found in excellent versions of the style. Mouthfeel and carbonation are both nicely dialed in. The finish seems almost balanced, with lingering notes of both hop bitterness/flavor and a slight residual sweetness. The general is of a recipe styled after U.S. east coast and/or English versions of the style. Overall, an interesting concept and a pleasing beer, if not quite up to the task of being a truly aggressive IPA.

Caramel, bread and raisins and maybe some licorice in the aroma. Very nice. Amber color with white head. Little less flavor than the aroma suggests I think, but very nice bitterness.

Another solid entry in the hopology series. Nose is pine, bitter grapefruit, caramel, and a bit of spice. Taste is the same: a good solid malt backbone with a nice gently dry finish. There’s that familiar Sam Adams spiciness in the malt, which seems to appear in most of the Hopology series. On the one hand it feels sort of repetitive, but on the other hand it’s neat to see how it interplays with their different hop combinations. Overall this is pretty darn good for a macro beer, especially when you can buy a 24 mixer pack for $25 (well you can in Florida, at least).

Dark copper color with a thick white head. I wouldn't have tasted the all the subtle flavors if I hadn't tasted all the others Sam Adams hops beers that lead up to this. Long finish. Layers of malt, pine and slightly sweet ---Rated via Beer Buddy

A dark amber IPA with a thick frothy lacing mocha head. In aroma, nice fruity caramel malt with piney and pungent floral hops, light funk and sulfur, nice. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light floral hops, grapefruit pulp, a bit oxidized, Bottle.

High hopes for the finished product were dashed by the weak, indistinctive hop aroma. Pours a copper color with a lasting white well laced head. Chalky taste with a traces of over ripe fruit. Dry mouth with a mineral finish.
