Created by Created by Russ Brunner, FL.

Russ has been brewing for three years but this was his first venture into creating a recipe from scratch. The result of his hard work is a big malty stout with notes of chocolate and coffee that carry through to a velvety finish with hints of roasted cocoa. The richness is balanced by subtle citrus and pine notes from the American hops that add a touch of bitterness to this deep and satisfying brew.

Bottle to snifter. Still a bit cold, but nose is showing a deep, dark chocolate aroma, slight cocoa, and a soft, rounded roastiness. Pour is black with a light brown, small head. Taste is slightly sharp initially, quite bitter, but a complimentary sweet malt backbone. Significant alcohol warming for only 7.2%. Not really getting much hop flavor. The alcohol is really making this one rough though

From a bottle poured a dark color with a small amount of head. Nice toasted malty flavor with a quick finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, oatmeal, nuts, earth and some bright cherry notes. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with some earth, cream, nuts, licorice and coffee noticeable. Aftertaste shows a lot of body and quite a bit of roasted and pungent malt character. Overall, a nice stout and is fairly similar to what I was expecting - not great and not poor - average. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Falls Church (Skyline), Virginia on 03-May-2014 for US$1,66 sampled at home in Washington on 27-September-2014.

Black pour with dense brown head. Great aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Very roasted deep cocoa notes and earthy bitterness. Sweet, but with some decent piney hop bitterness for balance. Earthy finish. Fantastic stout.

Starts off with a nice roasted coffee aroma, pours an opaque pitch black with a thin dark tan head. Very predominant chocolate notes, with a touch of sweetness, that carries through to bitter in the midpalate, and a roasted finish. A very nice example of the style.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. Damn near black pour with a large tan head. The nose has nice roasted malt notes with a hint of chocolate and coffee. Smooth on the tongue. Not too heavy, but not too light. Well balanced flavors of dark roasted malt, coffee, and cocoa. Nice roasted bitterness on the back end. Overall very well rounded and rather tasty.

Looks like a stout. Coffee and chocolate, of course, but also hoppy citrus. Pretty good!

Supremely opaque, bowling ball black. Not a ton of head but a shallow crown of lace. Aroma of charcoal, cocoa, dark chocolate, dates, hazelnut. Itís got a dry quality. Boy, that booziness really creeps up into the upper reaches of the nostrils. The flavors are mostly sweet and nutty, at least at first. The hazelnut steps to the forefront, dry and dusty. Itís followed by dark mocha, then a hint of raisins/dates. The booze is milder in the flavor than in the nose. The feel is oily and also a little dry. When I first had this one, I wasnít super crazy about it, but in a more controlled setting, it really hits the spot. Itís sweet and dry, oily and dusty.

Bottle from variety pack. Pours thick, deep black with 1-finger frothy tan head. Nose is roasty dark malts, cacao, charred malt, big hops, some citrus. Tastes rich and roasty dark malty up front, with notes of cacao, and the hopcitrus subtly blending into the background. Stays dense and malty at its core. This is well made.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 09/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, molasses, light char, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and light-moderate hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, molasses, dark bread, light char, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, toast, molasses, dark bread, light char, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, creamy, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice American stout style. All around good robustness, balance, and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
