Created by Created by Russ Brunner, FL.

Russ has been brewing for three years but this was his first venture into creating a recipe from scratch. The result of his hard work is a big malty stout with notes of chocolate and coffee that carry through to a velvety finish with hints of roasted cocoa. The richness is balanced by subtle citrus and pine notes from the American hops that add a touch of bitterness to this deep and satisfying brew.

Chocolate, strong, dark malts, and bit of char; near black, opaque; dark malts sweet, but bitter, chocolate, licorice, a bit of molasses, earthy bitterness in the finish; full body, milky smooth; quite good, but the robust porter was better.

Dark brown pour with an off-white head. The aroma is a bit faint but I get some nice chocolate and roasted malt notes, as well as a bit of cream. The flavor is very similar. The roasted malt and dark chocolate notes are pretty nice, and are complemented by some cream. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee and cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, cocoa and burnt coffee with a smooth lingering roasty fnish.

[Bottle] Jet black colored pour with about a half inch of cocoa colored foam on top. Heavy roast, ash, charred grains and coffee aromas. Bitter chocolate, espresso, tobacco, wood smoke, creosote and darker fruits in the taste. A herbal hoppiness cuts into the otherwise malty character of this beer. A little chalky. Finishes dry, with hints of grain husks. Tasting notes from 7/2014.

Black pour with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, little chocolate. Taste is creamy, roasted malt, chocolate. Nice mellow drink. Little bit of citrus hops in the finish. Ok lacing.

12oz bottle thanks to cbfobes, June 2014. Black pour with a small tan head, mild lacing. Lots of chocolate in the aroma, mild coffee, doughy malts, toasted caramel. Rich flavor, chocolate and coffee apparent again, from the malts, a distinct bitterness hits the tongue, borderline astringent, not much hop presence. Not bad.

Bottle to snifter. Still a bit cold, but nose is showing a deep, dark chocolate aroma, slight cocoa, and a soft, rounded roastiness. Pour is black with a light brown, small head. Taste is slightly sharp initially, quite bitter, but a complimentary sweet malt backbone. Significant alcohol warming for only 7.2%. Not really getting much hop flavor. The alcohol is really making this one rough though
