COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bruce describes his classic German-style lager as "pale gold in color with a blend of Pilsner maltiness and a mild hops aroma. The bitterness is just enough to balance the taste of the malt." Bruce is a former music teacher who began homebrewing 13 years ago when his wife gave him a kit for Christmas. He has since become an accomplished homebrewer and shares his knowledge and passion for beer by teaching classes in homebrewing and beer appreciation.

I wish I had a chance to try Bruces home brewed version of this beer. I was one of the 5 finalists in the Long Shot so I got to meet bruce out in Denver at the GABF. I find this version to be a nice balance between malt and hops as the style calls for. There is alot of diacetyl (a buttery flavor) in the beer otherwise a nice beer. They also used a different yeast than Bruce did so thats going to effect the beer alot, he said they did a good job replacating his homebrew though.

Bottle. Pours gold with a small white head. Malt/biscuit aroma with some herbal hops and light citrus. Moderately sweet bread/biscuit malt flavor with light herbal/floral hops and a touch of citrus. Similar finish.

Bottle. Poured a clear medium orange color. The head was thin and off white. Bread, hay and subdued caramel malt aromas with a hint of noble hop. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with mild bitterness. Malt forward flavors that followed the aroma. There was also a dash of brown sugar with noble hops in the background.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2010 One of a few Samuel Adams LongShot’s I have tried. I like them, a nice change from their standard.

Pours a slightly hazy light copper color with white head. Aroma is honey, vanilla, fruity, a touch of grain, and a slightly herbal note. Flavor is honey, vanilla, fruity, toast, and a bitter spicy finish.

Reminds me of a fine belgian urine, with notes of fruit, honey, and wheat. Overall not appealing and would do better in a toilet than a mouth.

Bottle. Pours a golden body with a white head. Sweet citrus and lots of grain, thin with a light sweetness and the a grainy dull bitter finish. Not so great. Must have been better as a small batch.

Overall Impression: Out of the LongShot pack from I believe 2007? I remeber thinking this was decent but unremarkable. Old notes had it rated here, so I’ll just trust those...

Poured yellow with a white head. Aroma of fruit. Some fruit and candy flavor. Not a favorite.

Pretty drinkable, but not very memorable. Malt, caramel, not much hops. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Not offensive, but nothing I’d write home about.

Bottle. Clear gold appearance with medium size white head and good lacing. Pleasant, although somewhat muted, toasted malt aroma with a hint of honey. Sweet malt taste, grainy, a touch of butterscotch, mild fruitiness. Moderately hopped, medium bodied, well carbonated mouth feel.
